About Jaffa
- Biography:
- Watched the odd game when I became old enough to watch Cardiff on my own. My first game was a game where Chris Pike equalised, I think it may have been against Wrexham. Me and my mate were warned against standing too near the fence (Grange end), but I guess we felt safer a little bit away from the throng of fans. Obviously nearly got crushed when Pikey scored!
Over my adolescent years I would go to the big games, where we were battling relegation (seem to remember attending a game against Crewe which we lost and it knackered us), or where we were chasing promotion. At the same time, I was a Liverpool fan.
Sam Hamman takeover meant me start attending on a regular basis and purchasing a season ticket. I dropped Liverpool and became a one club man. Over the years I've persuaded a number of mates to switch from an Arsenal/Liverpool/ManU allegiance to Cardiff. Many of them were scared of being accused of some big blasphemy if they switched from one football club to another. But my argument was that many of us had no idea why we were supporting a distant Premier League club, apart from the fact that we may have had pressure from a family member, or the club was doing well at the time that we started to enjoy football. Why couldn't we change to our hometown club when we had grown-up? In my case, nobody from my family had ever taken me to see Cardiff as a boy, everybody in school supported Liverpool, so I felt no guilt that I'd chosen Liverpool as a youngster. Yes, I could have switched fully to Cardiff earlier. And yes, it could be argued that the success and excitement of Hamman was needed for me to make that switch. But it is what it is. Fuck it, Fuck them and fuck you lol.
Away from football. Cathays lad through and through, lived in St Mellons for 10 years because I found a suitable property there and 2013 moved to Llanharan to be nearer my brother, get a bigger property and move to an area with good schools. Got two young daughters (7 and 5 as of 10h March 2016) and a wonderful wife who I’m lucky to have.
Work as a self-employed financial adviser.
Strong left wing leanings in politics, but hate left wing politically correct illiberal politics and identity politics. Have a huge respect for right wing libertarians, who I would prefer to work with when considering answers to problems than left wing totalitarians.
Historically I always played football, but very bad at it. Improved with age simply because all my opponents got older with me and as such dropped to my level when it came to speed and fitness levels! Unfortunately, I have not played for the last 2-3 years and this has taken its toll on my fitness. I’m determined to get back playing this year (2016)!
