Police raids at Newcastle and West Ham this morning
All part of a police investigation, a Times journo says someone has been arrested at Newcastle in connection with transfer activity.

Imagine if they get points docked..
Carnage.

Re: Police raids at Newcastle and West Ham this morning
If the dodgy transfer dealings are proved then a points reduction would surely follow?

No time for either before the end of the season. I'd imagine any legal dispute would take some time to settle.
Besides, West Ham going down could save the Jacks..

Possibly why Benitez has been holding back on committing himself

West Ham have been charged for impersonating a football stadium.

If the potential for points deduction is there, which I imagine it is then this creates havoc for the playoffs which are pretty soon.

Arrests as Newcastle and West Ham raided in £5m tax probe

Re: Police raids at Newcastle and West Ham this morning
Could be that hmrc has been keeping the football authorities up
to speed given that it's happened nigh on as soon as Newcastle's promotion was confirmed. Gives them a little bit of time to sort things out before the end of this season perhaps. You'd imagine they're bang to rights and the investigation has been going on a while, leaving no stone unturned. No shock with Ashley involved, is it?

HMRC as a long proud record of convictions against football clubs it pursues in the courts.....:sherlock:

Re: Police raids at Newcastle and West Ham this morning
If they've cheated they should get a points deduction, but they won't because its Newcastle and they're a "big club"

I thinks today's arrests for potential fraud are a bit different to a civil claim for chasing up an unpaid tax bill
