England 42-6 against Ireland and............
displaying all of the top and middle order dodgy test match batting technique that has been a feature of the Bayliss years.
Make that 43-7!

Moeen Ali should not be at 6 and Broad shouldn't be at 9 :hehe:. This is a "test" in name only. England and Bayliss using this as a warm up game and they're going to get embarrassed here.

67 for 9 now!
Murtagh 5 wickets.
Interestingly England still massive odds on to win.
Atherton saying England should not have played so soon after the world cup "no time to process what has happened"

I would tend to agree. after all the focus on the world cup, and then winning it. It would have been very difficult to then get up for a game against Ireland at Lords. Added to that the change in focus and technique to go from the one day game to the longer game.
That being said with the Ashes coming up this game is very much needed and the performance is well under par.

85 all out!
It is down to the coaches to ensure the players are up for it, even if it is little old Ireland shirley?

Its easy to say that, but we are all human really. Ultimately the team the coaches and all the staff have just achieved the thing that they have been aiming for, for the past 4 years. I would say this game is very much an anticlimax, maybe even the ashes.

Credit to the Irish for bowling well in the conditions that a Lord’s strip offers
However, never judge a score until both sides have batted ( whilst accepting that on paper that is an incredibly poor total)

These batsmen should be playing for their test careers and playing correctly.
When a batsman goes in to bat he should not allow himself to be thinking about recent past glories.
Play the bowler and every ball on merit.
This is a test match and they dont have to score quickly, just keep your wicket.
I'm thinking a slight bit of arrogance may have crept in.
Time for an overhaul.
Get Boris in!

Just read that that's the third time England have been bowled out in a session in the last three years. Prior to that the last time it happened was 1938.

No surprise. So much one day and 20-20 nonsense is played that there's less emphasis on defence. I reckon test matches are shorter nowadays than they used to be. There seems to be less draws in test cricket, or it might Justin Bieber me.

Well I'm blaming him for it myself :hehe:.
Murtagh especially bowled well on his home ground, but there was a litany of crooked bats and/or poor footwork from too many England players - if it was a one off, it could be put down to the World Cup, but England have been a 30-3, 50-4 type team for about five years now.

Thank fcuk it's not England & Wales playing.

Re: England 42-6 against Ireland and............
Go on Murtagh.... "swat" away!!

England back in again, on the first day

Re: England 42-6 against Ireland and............
Lunch and scores now level with only one wicket down.
A complete change from the wicket fest of yesterday and leaving the match nicely balanced, as it stands.
No idea what now constitutes a decent total as the strip has either become a batters paradise overnight or yesterday was a master class in how not to bat in a test match ,bar a couple of the Irish team.

The heat has sorted the pitch out. England will almost certainly win this now. Ireland were 132-2, and all out for 207. If they'd managed to close the day out at 4/5 down, they'd be a position to win. If Jack Leach is getting 60, this pitch is an absolute road.

Re: England 42-6 against Ireland and............
Jack Leach <3
If we can get a score of 200+ then it'll be very hard for them to chase down
-
Re: England 42-6 against Ireland and............
Ireland 24 for 4.
Are you Glammy in disguise??
Ball doing lots!
Edit: England reviewing a Not Out LBW.
Looks plumb In line...
OUT!! 24 for 5!

Re: England 42-6 against Ireland and............
36-9. England's impending win doesn't mean much as far as the Ashes goes though - the Aussies have a strong quick bowling attack plus a quality spinner and they'll fancy themselves against England's very suspect batting.

England will fancy attacking the Australian batsmen as well. Both teams have the same issues.

Both Ashes teams are looking very ordinary when batting, so far this summer.
Problem for both teams is that there is very little in terms of quality coming through.
My advice, don’t but tickets for days 4 & 5.
