Most important thing for Saturday - keep a clean sheet...
We always seem to give goals away easily.
Change that and I'll be happy to take what comes at the other end.

No it's not!!
It is the plain simple fact that we have to score more goals than they do!
I'd take a 7-6 victory any day over a boring 0-0 draw!

Yes, but over a 46-game season, a solid defence is a great platform from which to pick off wins

And forces oppositions to shape up against us differently, possibly to our advantage,.

Re: Most important thing for Saturday - keep a clean sheet...
I'd take 7-6 over 0-0 every time.

Re: Most important thing for Saturday - keep a clean sheet...
Most important thing for Saturday is that we have more possession than Burton which is something we lacked last season.

Re: Most important thing for Saturday - keep a clean sheet...
Surely winning is better than not conceding. 0-0 draw would be shite.

Yep 3 points instead of one every time for me:thumbup:

Anyone who has ambitions of finishing in the top 6 beats Burton away.
7-6 every time.

Re: Most important thing for Saturday - keep a clean sheet...
I don't care what the score is. All I want to see from this first match is a few glimpses of Tomlin and Zohore linking up well and looking dangerous

The original post isn't advocating a mindset in which we shut up shop and play for an away point. We all believe we have a potent frontline and stronger midfield than last season from which we expect goals on a regular basis.
That said even with the the strength among defenders that we boast, we do have a tendency to give opposing teams a chance. So my point is a clean sheet in any game is more likely to end in a win than not because we're highly likely to score at the other end.

Re: Most important thing for Saturday - keep a clean sheet...
I'd say the most important thing is to not lose.
Win your home games, draw your away games, and you'll get promoted. Also a loss against Burton wouldn't be fantastic for morale purposes going forward.

It'd be meltdown on here at least.

I always avoid a hot curry the night before the first game of these season

Re: Most important thing for Saturday - keep a clean sheet...
The most important thing for Saturday is to not pick up any long term injuries. I'll take a point right now. Win and I'll be over the moon. 0-1 or 1-2 doesn't make any difference to me.

Re: Most important thing for Saturday - keep a clean sheet...
We simply have to win at Burton if we want any chance of promotion.
We've then got Wolves, Fulham, Preston, Sunderland and Birmingham as our next away games. I'd be very surprised if we got more than 2 wins out of that so a victory on Saturday is beneficial.
A loss would only see our heads drop for the opening few games and then we are already playing catch up.

Jesus wept, we've got to hit the ground running. Who cares if their linking up is a bit rusty, s'long as we score more goals than Burton! Taking a maximum of 6 points off a club like Burton is a must this season, if we are to end up a top six club come the season's end.

As long as they win I don't care what the score is

I agree, a clean sheet with a new keeper was so important, but you seem to have changed your mind judging by that post game thread you started - Tandy will be spitting feathers as well because Burton had more possession than us!

No it hasn't. It's a sticky at the top of the board. It's just merged with the 'post match thread'
