I don't understand why the ref decided to consult the var official after he'd blown for half time.

VAR works perfectly well (nearly) in egg, why is football having so many issues?

Because it's a s4it concept. Rugger is a stop start game, football isn't. VAR is only good for arm chair supporters who follow the top 6 teams on match of the day or Sky.

Each team should be allowed 1 VAR intervention in each game. End of.
Requested by the Captain.

I’m no rugger lover, but I think you’ll find the ball is in play longer in the egg than it is in football. Pro rata the 80 & 90 mins.

TMO can offer advice on the matter of foul play or the scoring of a try
They don’t get it right all the time and there’s often still those who disagree but on the whole Rugby has made work
Football however seems to want it right and right now
Me I prefer to have it than not

The system works well in MLS.
Referee doesn't instigate a review; they have people watch all the footage. IF there is clear and obvious footage that a mistake was made, then the review team notify the referee asking him to take a look at the footage.
One example was a goal that was given; real time looked ok, the footage however showed striker deliberately handled the ball. The decision was overturned and striker booked in less than 2 minutes.

Introducing var is a process of evolution and education

Was 2 minutes added on though. !?
If they are going to go down this road, then they have to take the time keeping off the idiot on the pitch and do as egg do and stop the clock.

Yup, time was added on.
Again, this isn't something in MLS that happens 6, 7 times a game - it's the case there where the external officials can see there's evidence the wrong decision was made then they notify the official. If referees are the ones who call for a review then there runs the risk of them using it as a crutch to either defend their decision or giving them a get out of jail free card.

It’s all about helping the ref get decisions right! Surely that’s good for the game to have no howlers due to human error?

TMO is Rugby is ruining the game. They go so far back to look for infringements it's a joke. In League it is an absolute farce.

With this VAR decision in mind, what about this scenario:----
Full time whistle goes, crowd start leaving, VAR states that there was a handball and a pelanty in the last minute !
Crowd starts panicking, some trying to get out, some trying to get back in.
People getting trampled, kids squashed and crying.
UTTER CHAOS
Please don't say it couldn't happen, because the above scenario says it could.
