Slade certainly writing FA Cup off
On TV he alluded to 'players coming through and playing their way into first team contention".
We are playing Shrewsbury, confidence is not high as it is and I suspect we might be seeing a second string 11 in the FA Cup third round.
As if our first string is currently good enough?

Re: Slade certainly writing FA Cup off
Rubbish, i'm sure we'll see an exciting team with players who are deserving of first team positions.
Really looking forward to the game (unusually).
A great Wales - Shropshire derby and a chance for people of my generation to relive the clashes we had against The Shrews in the early 90's.

What makes you believe confidence is not high? We are just outside the playoffs.

It will be a miracle if anyone who hasn't featured on the bench will be included.

Slade wins sometimes. Not often though.

Biggest game of the season for me. I'd give the fringe a run out in the league before the cup. The league is pretty much dead for us and a cup run is best chance of salvaging something from this season and getting a gate above 15k.

63 points to play for and the "league is dead for us"? You couldn't make it up. http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/facepalm.gif

There's no reason to think that the second half of the season will be any better than the first, so the league is pretty much dead.

We spent some time in the top six in the first half of the season, what's to say we wont spend some time in the top six in the second half of the season?

Re: Slade certainly writing FA Cup off
One of the most encouraging things about the rest of this season is that our gloom and doom merchant supporters have all already given up on the season.
As a die hard away supporter I am looking forward to the next two away games at Hull and Wolverhampton with as much enthusiasm as ever.
Our team are gelling and are starting to get some deserved luck.

The 15,000 die hard fans who still support the City are nothing like the doom and gloom mongers on here. Thank heavens. http://www.ccmb.co.uk/images/smiley_icons/ayatollah.gif

Unfortunately the only ones who make any noise at all at home games now are the ones who boo and shout at slade when he makes a sub. Apart from that it's silence.

I'm one of the die hards, if that means going to every home game and quite a few aways, and I'm a doom and gloom merchant. I've seen enough games to know we aren't good enough to finish above 8th at best

Do you actually attend games?

Shame on you Father D. Your League season is very much alive.

My point is I can't understand why we would not go all out to do something in the cup this year- it won't be distracting us from anything and a cup run can only help us. I'm disappointed hardly any city fans will be there on Sunday and I'll be disappointed if slade doesn't do everything possible to win the game.

Yes there is a chance we go up or down, but either is pretty unlikely. I have felt we are a mid table side all season and haven't changed my mind at all. We are mid table and that's where we will end up.
No shit Sherlock.

Re: Slade certainly writing FA Cup off
I'll be happy if he plays the youngsters on Sunday.
I'd much rather see the likes of O'Sullivan, Kennedy, John than Revell, O'Keefe etc
-
Re: Slade certainly writing FA Cup off
I'm very interested in what the team looks like on Sunday and will be more upset if we see a team little changed from last Saturday than I would be with one that sees a few squad players included.
While I believe Russell Slade will have to show a flair and an expertise in the transfer market which he has not even remotely suggested he possesses up to now if we are to finish in the top six, I find it ludicrous that people should say that we cannot finish in a Play Off place when there are still so many points up for grabs. I can remember Palace being promoted in 03/04 when they were in the same sort of position going into the new year that, say, MK Dons are in now.
What I do not want to see is someone like Marshall, Connolly, Manga, Ralls, Gunnarsson or Watt picking up a long term injury on Sunday in a tournament that we are not going to win - can't help thinking that at least the two centrebacks will start though.
Finally, how can we have 15,000 diehard fans when we'll do well to get a third of that on Sunday? To say we have 15,000 diehards is to believe that our drop in attendances has bottomed out - if we drift off into mid table mediocrity in the second half of the season, then there'll be fewer again the ground in 16/17.

Re: Slade certainly writing FA Cup off
I'm a ST holder so include myself as one of the "15,000"
I'm a right grumpy fecker
I can't see us getting any better this season - teams around us will strengthen, meanwhile we're looking at kids from gravesend.
I can't be arsed going to the game on Sunday
Hope this clears things up for Tandy

Re: Slade certainly writing FA Cup off
To my surprise it's struck me that I'm not a doom and gloom merchant.
One of the 15k and going on Sunday.
