Re: Goodbye Welsh Labour ?
I think so.
Plaid will tear into them in Cardiff and the more affluent labour voting areas, the Tories in the countryside and UKIP in the Valleys and the impoverished constituencies in the North East.

I think Plaid are more likely to make gains in the valleys than UKIP. People aren't that stupid.

All valley constituencies voted to leave during the EU referendum plus in the majority of assembly seats Plaid were behind UKIP.

Re: Goodbye Welsh Labour ?
Wouldn't that be nice? I don't expect anything from the Tories. Labour decided during the 90s that aping the Conservatives was the way to go. Thy deserve to be written out of history.

I know that UKIP received more votes than Plaid in Caerphilly, Merthyr and Pontypridd at the last GE in 2015. They probably done Plaid in other similar constituencies. With those areas voting for Brexit since then, which Plaid campaigned against, then you might be on a sticky wicket with those remarks.

At present, left wing principles are pretty much unimportant with all the furore with the EU referendum. Add to that a distinct difference between Labour in the UK and Welsh Labour.

I'm also aware that Welsh patriotism has increased since the Brexit vote so it may not be such a sticky wicket. Labour are on a hiding to nothing in Wales, that's obvious, but there's an assumption that Labour voters will go to UKIP, which I don't necessarily buy. Anyone with a hint of socialism or moral compass won't go UKIP.
Re: Goodbye Welsh Labour ?
You might be correct. But the upsurge in Welsh patriotism you alluded to has completely passed my radar. As a comparison, I've taken a look at the 1983 General Election results in the three constituencies I mentioned. Thatcher had been in for four years, and was very unpopular, while Michael Foot was the leader of the labour Party, and was also unpopular, much like Corbyn today. Instead of voters turning to Plaid in Caerphilly, Merthyr and Pontypridd, they placed an X next to Liberal or SDP candidates (Liberal and SDP parties didn't contend the same constituencies, it was before they merged). Those parties came second to Labour in each while the Plaid share of the vote slumped from the 1979 GE. I say the voters are as fickle then as today.

What are you basing that on?
