How is the everyday man on the street benefitting from it? A strong stock market almost never reflects an increase in living standards/wages for the average person.

This is just a lie. The opposite has happened and there's nothing to suggest that anything will get better for citizens & business in the UK when it comes to their energy costs.

What does "remains the same" mean? What timeframes are you using for comparison?

For balance, there's also a record number of job vacancies and millions struggling with the cost of living despite being in work.

This simply reads like a Mail or Telegraph soundbite that doesn't actually mean anything - unless you care to expand on what it is that you are trying to infer?
Note, this is a story based on a report by the Institute of Financial Studies containing the stories of people who are deciding that they’re better off financially not working full time. This is not just lower paid workers making this decision, there’s someone on 60;grand a year doing it, forget party politics, that’s a sign of a seriously messed up country.Quote:

Of course there is an alternative narrative but you won't get it from the guardian. Everything it reports will be done so to give the readers what they want.
Thats not to say there aren't issues in what's being reported, because there certainly is. I know a few people on benefits and working part time and it simply is not worth working extra hours for them, even if they wanted to. That is clearly not an ideal situation and not really what benefits are designed to do either.
I also know numerous people who left the workforce after Covid for various reasons; fear, the reality that they didn't need to work, changed perspectives on life etc. Slowly some may go back, hopefully.
Interestingly, todays news partly starts to reverse what the article is talking about..which is suspect is why they published it yesterday
