Listening to the podcast it was clear Pulis liked him. Even when he didn’t fit in his plans at PL level he asked him to stay at Stoke as he was good to have around the place but Parkin wanted to play.
Listening to Parkin he’s a straight shooter and says he would rather just be told you ain’t part of the plans rather than be made a Cnut out of. Sounded like he had an issue with Phil Brown and Malky because of this. 2 arrogant managers who thought they were better than they were.

He was never going to fit in with a Malky side, all about fitness and work rate etc. He was an out and out target man, needed someone alongside him, that's why jones brought him in, as cover for Bothroyd as jones loved his 442. He was quite proven at championship level and i bet he was cheap in comparison to others. He did alright at Preston and played around 25 league games during Stokes promotion to the Premier league.
Tough job for anyone playing back up to Bothroyd at that time. He was at his best in 2010/11. People remember Chops goals but Bothroyd we missed the most when he wasn’t playing. More so than Bellamy.
