Unfortunately none of us know if that is true, hence the need for it.

Well at least it's billions of pounds invested in British manufacturing. Oh, wait...
There are more ways than one to skin a cat, as sludge would say..
That's assuming that we immediately know who nuked us. Some crackpot leader might take the risk regardless of the effect on his own people. No-one can be certain at all that it prevents us being attacked by nuclear weapons.
As has already been said, plenty of major players around the world don't need it. We've only got it (in my opinion) because it flexes the egos of those yearning for the days of the British Empire, thinking that we are a massively powerful nation.
Oh come on.... you really think they have not thought of that.
There are protocols for that Eric. The subs are then given a time to communicate with the government staff who would have gone underground into bunkers and if no contact can be made then that is automatic authority to launch.
And incase you meant the subs are not at sea, there is always atleast 1 out there. Normally 2, assuming no major faults.
I think you need to learn more about it, before you say no to it. You cant rule something out without knowing what it is you are against.
Surely it's better to be safe than sorry?
None of us know how the world will be in 20 years time, as you can see in other countries Peace can be a finely balanced thing that gets totally altered within a matter of 18 months. Do you think the UK is immune to this? History suggests otherwise.
People seem to think we wouldn't know a nuke is about to hit us:hehe:. To many hippies on here, we are much safer having a weapon of mass destruction than without out
Having looked closely at the film Wargames it looks as though we miss most of the global thermonuclear war so lets just leave it to the good old US of A and the Ruaskies.

It's good business for shareholders in the mega corporations who comprise the Military Industrial Complex to coin in untold billions on these death weapons that no-one uses. Russia is being resurrected as a boogeyman state once again. That worked a treat during the 40-something years of the Cold War. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that throughout that whole period of much huffing and puffing and sabre rattling not one bullet was exchanged between US and Soviet forces. It tickles me that Britain, the US and the other nuclear states insist they are vital for their national security but are intent on stopping certain states from acquiring them for the same reason - and they all pretend not to know Israel has loads of them. The hypocrisy of it all is breathtaking.
we need a good war to put a lot of these nasty foreign types back in their place. church hill (main man) did it so i am sure teresa may can take up the reigns.
Isn't this the sort of thing we should have had a referendum over? it seems equally important as EU membership to say the least.
Leave foreign types be! It would be impossible to get a copy of the Big Issue without those valuable citizens. If there is a war, I'd stick indigenous 2nd and 3rd generation career benefit claimants in the forward trenches. Who else? Hmm, let's see. I know, anyone who wears a baseball cap and all residents of Gabalfa.
