Re: Any one going to Baku?
It’s supposed to be a nice city to visit, too far to go for a football match for 2 London based teams though.

Re: Any one going to Baku?
UEFA only gave teams 20 months notice that it was going to be held there.

That was a home game for 1 team though. There’s some sense in that.

Re: Any one going to Baku?
Another 'political' decision. 6000 tickets each club and kick off 11pm local time...

6000 tickets each is an absolute disgrace.
How many are the Liverpool/Spurs fans getting for Madrid?

Re: Any one going to Baku?
I know this has been said a lot, but there isn't much happening at the millstad that Weekend. Invite both teams to come for an exhibition match:, split tickets 50/50 between season ticket holders and charge £30 or whatever for entry. Turn it into an unofficial final and send the youth teams to baku for the Real thing. Uefa will take umbrage but **** em. Probably result in a ban for English teams but that just removes legitimacy from their own competitions.
Bonus points if the stunt is repeated for the champions league final.
In the event that English clubs would be allowed to compete next year I guess the clubs would need to work out how to ensure the official result reflects the unofficial one if it has a bearing on qualification etc. I don't underestimate the scale of the operation here but it cannot be beyond the wit of man to manage this.
It would be bloody brilliant

Re: Any one going to Baku?
Is it the first Champions League final where the stadium isn't located in Europe?
And who remembers City playing a European Cup Winner's Cup game in Tashkent, just 270 miles from the Chinese border?

The definition of Europe is surprisingly flexible but I've yet to see one that excludes spain

Only an idiot would get those two competitions the wrong way around.

Another sporting occasion to polish a dictator's fragile ego. Azerbaijan is the pits.

Re: Any one going to Baku?
To tbg's main point though :Uzbekistan is simply not in Europe under any sane definition. The only people who think otherwise are the folk at uefa. All the more reason to wrestle this Excellent game out of their hands and give it back to those that it is made for, the players and fans. Lets get this final moved to cardiff and invite the proper fans to come. We can even pretend it's for environmental reasons is you want

It is after reading another article, pardoning an axe murderer for killing an Armenian.

Indeed. I like Optimistic Nick's suggestion above and would love every football fan to boycott Qatar 2022 as well. Won't happen though.

Is it? How well do you know the place? Have you ever been there? Spent time there? Can you explain your description of the place?
