Latest gun massacre USA....
At least 20 dead...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-41466116
If it was this country I'd automatically think radicalised muslim, as it's the States, just assume it's some other type of lunatic. Sad, whoever did it, for whatever reason.

Re: Latest gun massacre USA....
Some bitter loser that hates the world so much he takes it out on others instead of doing the right thing and just ending his life
Some of the videos of normal people doing CPR on the hurt are horrible
They've released a picture on his friend they're after and she is latino

Re: Latest gun massacre USA....
In that situation, I'm not sure I'd be standing there filming it on my phone, I'd be on my toes.
Horrible thing to happen, looks like a lone nutter. RIP to the victims.

I know what you mean but no one really knows how they'd react.

Indeed, but in my case I'm pretty sure hiding and/or running would be involved.

Re: Latest gun massacre USA....
Police have said the shooter was a white male in his 60's, who's been living in a retirement community...

It is odd that people in my work are saying "well he must have just been insane".
As if no white man could sanely do something like this
Over 50 dead now

Why is it odd? Surely the sanity of anyone could empty a few clips of automatic rounds into a crowd at random should be called into question?

Most people would but maybe there's something in distancing yourself from something terrible by watching it through a screen. If you're young and have grown up filming everything it might even be an automatic reaction.

Yep , they all know there's money to be made by selling the pictures to tv companies and newspapers.
-
Re: Latest gun massacre USA....
Jesus, they just played an audio clip of automatic gun fire on the radio, those people didn't stand a chance. At least fifty of them dead. When are they going to finally do something about gun control in the US? Never I guess.

Well I see your point, personally I think anyone who does something like that can’t be of perfectly sound mind

Kind of the point I was making further up.
Muslim: premeditated act of terror with sound mind
White man: batshit crazy acting out of character

The word terror has not been used once on the BBC.
I know it's a 'done' argument but it's still true!

Yep definitely.

Re: Latest gun massacre USA....
It's legal to carry an assault rifle in Vegas, and legal to buy guns privately. They have some of the laxest gun laws in America, you don't need to produce a blue card to purchase a firearm either. I'm not sure what a blue card is exactly :hehe: but without researching I'm guessing it's like a firearm licence.

Gun owners would argue that this atrocity is exactly why Americans should be allowed to defend themselves by carrying weapons. I didn't however see anyone trying to return fire at the concert.

Re: Latest gun massacre USA....
200 people injured with gunshot wounds must be a nightmare scenario for the hospitals there. Vegas isn't a massive city, maybe double the size of Cardiff. Having 200 people suddenly needing a hospital bed must be utterly chaotic

One off-duty police officer (presumably armed) killed apparently along with two (definitely armed) on-duty officers injured.

They ran out of ambulances and they haven't got much idea on the number of people injured as many made their own way to hospitals.

What a thing to say.
50 dead and you are point scoring.
You really are a sad individual.

Reporting 400 injured.

I'm not point scoring at all. Just stating a fact, and it's a dig at the media, no one else. It's very sad what's happened, and it's no less a tragedy whether it was terror or not. It's just something that sticks out from the media narrative to me.

Re: Latest gun massacre USA....
The kind of gun it take's to do this (never mind the will) baffle's me no end. If you or anybody else can not only own one, purchase the required ammunition, check into a hotel, set up shop n start squeezing the trigger baffles me further. Military grade weapon's in the hand's of grade A lunatic's. The right to bear arms doesn't in any way mean it is right to do so.

Re: Latest gun massacre USA....
"Mike McGarry, a 53-year-old financial adviser from Philadelphia, was at the concert when he heard hundreds of shots ring out.
“It was crazy - I laid on top of the kids. They’re 20. I‘m 53. I lived a good life,” McGarry said. The back of his shirt bore footmarks, after people ran over him in the panicked crowd. "

Re: Latest gun massacre USA....
Anyone else find the response from trump really weird:
My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting. God bless you!
A strange choice of words

Re: Latest gun massacre USA....
Shocking numbers of gun deaths in the US. This is the year up until September, i.e. not including this incident.
-11,572 gun deaths
-23,365 gun injuries
-271 mass shootings
-1,508 unintentional shootings
-2,971 kids/teens shot
https://twitter.com/GunDeaths/status/914577120579465216
Things that leap out to me are pretty much one mass shooting per day and that injuries are barely double that of deaths - meaning that you get shot and there's a cecent chance you're gonna die.

It sounds as if the Tweeter-in-Chief has confused himself again. I would have thought that 'deepest' condolences would be the trite but expected response. 'Warmest' works best with congratulations. Either way the tweets of Donald Trump are just an embarrassing irrelevance in the face of another tragic 'domestic' massacre. No doubt the NRA agenda will inform the Presidents eventual more considered statement on events in Las Vegas - and nothing will be done (again) to ban, restrict or even control accessible weapons of mass murder.

Nevada is a "Shall-carry" state i.e the the authority that grants the licence has no discretion, i.e any numpty can get one.
There is no permit to purchase required
No requirement to register the gun(s)
You only need a concealed carry licence for a hand gun
Open carry is permitted
No assault weapon law
No restriction on the size of the magazine
It is not illegal to carry a gun into a casino, although the casino will probably ask you (nicely I'm guessing) to leave.

Then this happen's. Ive only ever had my hands on a peg gun. The fact that he broke no laws up until he committed murder is the worst part of it. Am I right in thinking you only need a license to hide a weapon on yourself Th? Madness if so.
-
Re: Latest gun massacre USA....
Rumours that the bloke and his mrs were involved in an altercation at the concert and she was heard to threaten to kill everyone.

Pretty much. It's called CCW - Concealed Carry. It's the ONLY licence you need and the issuing authority (in Nevada) basically HAVE to grant you one. Some other states at least check you're not a loony tune. It's harder to get a library ticket in our country.
Most states are Concealed Carry only, so you won't see someone walking down fifth avenue with a cowboy holster, in Vegas, that guy could've wandered down the street holding an AK47 in front of him and the police wouldn't have been able to do a thing until he pointed it at someone or pulled the trigger.
