:sherlock: Same url as Gluey's image. Think we've found his 'source'.
:hehe: Oh shit. He did it... He actually did it.
I wonder how he ran that quote through his fact checking machine...
.
Is a quote actually a quote if nobody actually said it?
If a Gluey falls in the woods and nobody else is around, will it still repost right-wing propaganda?
In that case, wouldn't you have been better off just posting the "quote" without all of the other stuff - it would have made you sound profound, but now you're just coming across as, well.....................

In fairness to him I can see how he got confused, I have found the original quote.
Attachment 2604
Maybe these words from Churchill would strike a chord with the governor? ... The totalitarian system of a single party, armed with secret police, engrossing to itself practically all the offices, even the humblest, under the Government, with magistrates and courts under the control of the executive, with its whole network of domestic spies and neighbourly informants – that system when applied over a long period of time, leaves the broad masses without any influence upon their country’s destinies and without any independent figures apart from the official classes."
Yes Wales Bales he said that during the election campaign of 1945 in reference to Labour getting power.
It was roundly criticised at the time and seen as an epic failure which was on of the contributory factors to Labour winning a landslide.
But I’m sure you’ll find a way to relate it to tour alt right philosophy 😉👍
Research suggests . It was attributed to Huey Long ("When the United States gets fascism it will call it anti-fascism") by american papers in 1930s and 1940s however in 1951 historian Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. contacted Robert Cantwell to whom Long is supposed to have said the famous quote.
My bad.. I was hasty and thinking it was the speech he made during election campaign.
So why your point? Your chums in the alt right gang are our saviours whilst centre to centre left are the nee extremists?
Reading between the lines I’m guessing you’re thinking poor old Tommy is some sort of victim?
Politifact? What this Politifact?
2015
PolitiFact's 2015 Lie of the Year was the "various statements" made by 2016 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. Politifact found that 76% of Trump's statements that they reviewed were rated "Mostly False," "False" or "Pants on Fire". Statements that were rated "Pants on Fire" included his assertion that the Mexican government sends "the bad ones over" the border into the United States, and his claim that he saw "thousands and thousands" of people cheering the collapse of the World Trade Center on 9/11.
2016
PolitiFact's 2016 Lie of the Year was "fake news" referring to fabricated news stories including the Pizzagate conspiracy theory.
2017
PolitiFact's 2017 Lie of the Year was Donald Trump's claim that Russian election interference is a "made-up story."The annual poll found 56.36% of the 5080 respondents agreed that Trump's "Pants on Fire" statement deserved the distinction. Raul Labrador's statement that " Nobody dies because they don't have access to health care," and Sean Spicer's statement that "[Trump's audience] was the largest audience to witness an inauguration, period," came in second and third place getting 14.47% and 14.25% of the vote respectively. In its article, PolitiFact points to multiple occasions where Donald Trump stated that Russia had not interfered with the election despite multiple government agencies claiming otherwise.

It's been proved that it wasn't "superior knowledge" though hasn't it - all the Governor was doing was lying or showing he hadn't researched what he was putting into the public domain well enough. Tell me would you have put that Churchill message on here if Abbott was a Democrat? You are as politically biased, if not more so, as the rest of us, no matter how much you try to portray yourself as a neutral observer.
I have to respectfully disagree with you Bob. You guys are always attacking the messenger while ignoring the message. What the governor is saying is the anti-fascists are fascists. If we can agree on Churchill's definition; totalitarian objectives, secret police, engrossing offices of Government with magistrates and courts under the control of the executive, domestic spies and informants, outcome that leaves the masses without influence upon their country’s destinies and without any independent figures apart from the official classes, then it follows that we have a form of fascism.
I could elaborate further, but there are too many slippery chancers on here who I can't be bothered engaging with anymore, so I will leave to the antagonists to fit the pieces together by themselves. In the meantime, take note of the definition above and the kinds of people who would fit those roles. As for myself, I will be remaining firmly on the fence until I have the full facts of the matter at hand. I don't want to follow lardy's example where he prematurely shot his bolt, and now he's acting like a grouchy old man

Somebody recommended this programme on 5 Live yesterday, so I decided to watch it;-
https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/80994804
I wouldn't say it was a real eye opener, because it confirmed a few half thoughts I'd already had, but, to my surprise, it left me feeling quite hopeful about things. Most of the people she talked to came across as pretty sad, social inadequates who crumbled under questioning as the implications of what they were proposing and following were pointed out to them - as much as I started watching wanting to hate these characters, I found I was unable to do so.
On the other hand, there was a born into money entitled bastard who appeared in it for about a minute as he proclaimed that he and people like him were born to rule who came across as a real piece of work - people like him are the real enemy, not the saddos who get taken in by his bollox.
Cheers TOBW I will watch that. I saw something similar where this UK comedian of Asian descent went to see this white supermacist Nazi type in the Deep South. I started watching it thinking what a complete areaehole but by the end I felt a bit sorry for him. He seemed a decent family man trying to do his best for his kids and seemed more ignorant as opposed to hateful.
As you say it’s the entitled bastards manipulating it are the real dangerous ones.
