FT: PRESTON NORTH END 3 - 0 CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Preston may again be without midfielders Ben Pearson and Daniel Johnson against Cardiff.
The duo missed Saturday's draw with Barnsley, with Pearson sidelined by a dead leg and Johnson sustaining an impact injury in training. Boss Alex Neil had been hopeful of getting at least one back and Johnson will have a late fitness test on his knock but the game is likely to come too soon for Pearson.
North End did have Paul Gallagher (concussion) and John Welsh (calf) return on Saturday, though Tom Clarke (Achilles) and Greg Cunningham (knee) remain out and Declan Rudd (thigh) and Calum Woods (knee) are still working their way back..
Cardiff boss Neil Warnock will consider making changes even though his Sky Bet Championship leaders remain unbeaten. Aron Gunnarsson has had a heavy early-season workload with Cardiff and Iceland and could be rested.
Lee Tomlin is also in contention to make his first league start for a month with Loic Damour possibly dropping out from the 1-1 draw at Fulham. Danny Ward - who scored his first Cardiff goal at Fulham - and on-loan midfielder Craig Bryson are pushing for their first Bluebirds' starts.
Opta stats
Preston have won six of their last nine home league games against Cardiff (D1 L2), winning 3-0 last season at Deepdale against the Bluebirds, who were then managed by Paul Trollope.
Neil Warnock has lost just one of his last 16 league games against Preston (W8 D7), when his Crystal Palace side went down 2-0 at Deepdale in August 2008.
Preston have picked up seven points in their first three home games this season, if they beat Cardiff it will be only the second time this century that the Lilywhites have registered double figures after four games (2009-10).
In fact, Preston have lost just one of their last 14 home league games (W8 D5), scoring in each of the last 17.
Cardiff have 16 points after their first six league games - their best start to a league campaign.

Re: PRESTON NORTH END v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Preston manager quotes:
"I think it's really difficult to play really good football against teams like Cardiff because they are set up to stop you playing. They don't want you to have any part to play in the game and there's nothing wrong with that because we do the same.
"We don't like teams getting on the ball and moving it against us, we want to stop them and we want to force our style of play on them so it's going to be a really hard fought game I think.
"They are performing well at the moment but as with a lot of games it's fine margins. They get a goal towards the later end of the game against Fulham, I've watched the game against Fulham and to be honest the game could have probably gone either way, Fulham had some good chances in the game as well."

0-2 to the mighty Bluebirds with Kenneth getting at least 1 of them. He likes playing against Preston.

I like how NW is sticking to this team, it puts actual value on his team sheet expectation

Re: PRESTON NORTH END v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Pleased with that line-up. No need to tinker yet imo. Strong options off the bench.

Never a free kick. Absolute bollocks from the ref.

OK ..
We can do comebacks these days I think. I hope.

Re: PRESTON NORTH END v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Getting nothing from this ref.
-
Re: PRESTON NORTH END v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
As Mike's stats suggest Preston are very strong at home although very poor away from home. A draw tonight would be very decent.

Re: PRESTON NORTH END v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Etheridge should have done better was on his side. He ended up just in the middle of the goal. He's been let off because we have been winning games, don't think any of the 3 keepers are up to the task
-
Re: PRESTON NORTH END v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
It does my head in when you see free kicks given for centre backs "climbing", when the striker has ducked out of the challenge for the header. It's impossible for the centre back to do anything other than fall over the striker. That's exactly what happened and refs who give fouls for it are naive muppets. Should never be a goal down.

Watching on iFollow, we are poor and making Preston look good.
Hairdryer from Warnock at half time I'd imagine.

Re: PRESTON NORTH END v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
There's a proper bollocking going on in the away dressing room at Deepdale

Re: PRESTON NORTH END v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread

Quite agree, our boys (mostly) look tired; Damour, Hoilett, Zohore, even Mendez-Laing; Preston are first to the ball everywhere.
Biggest problem is though, they're running with the ball when we're just looking to play it long.

We just haven't looked like we're up for it at all. Hoping the lads come out with a rocket up their arse second half and shut the Preston faithful up.

True. PNE have been very crafty with their gamesmanship. That free kick award was very sneaky from their striker. From their point of view they've done well in that regard. We probably wouldn't complain if it were the other way round.

Re: PRESTON NORTH END v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
I wish the bloody commentator on BBC Wales would stop calling them 'North End'.

I hope he is politely asking the wing backs when they plan to actually contribute towards the team this season

I wish he'd stop complimenting the other team, talking utter bollocks when the crowd are cheering/booing and rushing off to some other match every possible moment he can.

Re: PRESTON NORTH END v CARDIFF CITY. Match thread
Looking at this Cardiff side your keeper is maybe the weak link. If you are pushing for promotion come January it's one area that Warnock will surely look to strengthen.
