Clearing stuff out Yesterday, Heath / The Heath
Lots of stuff gone in the bin, came across this but only noticed a little earlier
Is it Heath, or The Heath as this poster suggests ?
Don't think I have ever used "The Heath"

I live in one of the St's near St Ina, 28 years this year, cannot recall ever saying the Heath.

Re: Clearing stuff out Yesterday, Heath / The Heath
The postal address is Heath but people always said The heath referring to the whole area. I recall as a 16 yr old when we had ab away game there on a saturday it was always referred to as "up the heath"

Always thought "The Heath" was the hospital.

Proper Kairdiffians refer to it as it’s proper name, Caroline Street.

It was definitely the pub when I worked in Companies House :hehe:, but now if someone mentioned "The Heath" I'd automatically think of the hospital. The two stations are not called "The Heath high/low" and Wikipedia has it as Heath.

Re: Clearing stuff out Yesterday, Heath / The Heath
My parents always referred to the area as the Heath as did their friends. I lived in Heath for 20 years. Over time the "the" disappeared and became obsolete just as names such as "the Philog" which many now refer to as Whitchurch. I have a history of Heath somewhere and will dig it out sometime.

Re: Clearing stuff out Yesterday, Heath / The Heath
I was born in Crystal Avenue in “the” Heath a long time before the hospital was built. I remember my parents and friends using the phrase “the Heath” to describe where they lived. The use of “the” has dropped off which, as has been pointed out already, is probably down to the hospital being more in the forefront of people’s minds rather than the area it is situated in.

Re: Clearing stuff out Yesterday, Heath / The Heath
Thankfully, the popular music combo The The didn't drop either of the 'The's ' from their name, especially the first The.

It's not "The Heath". That's like saying I am going to "The Toilet".

Re: Clearing stuff out Yesterday, Heath / The Heath
I’m guessing that the area was a heath (a large area of uncultivated land) before it was built on, so was probably known locally as “The Heath”, but that’s now fallen into history.

Going to the toilet means you intend to visit the WC.
Going to toilet means you are in the process of curling one out.
Fact.

The park was part of a heath
The area was referred to as the Heath as opposed to the indefinite article a Heath
The housing area is Heath
The hospital and the pub are referred to the Heath although I’d be but careful of what I as ordering pints of were I in the wrong establishment

Re: Clearing stuff out Yesterday, Heath / The Heath
To remove all confusion, they should rename it Da Heath.
Trendy Cardiffians and Chippy Lane aficiendos everywhere will be able to adopt their own groupspeak, such as "Gonna kick back wid my boyz at Da Heath".
