Ahh, The Dusty Forge. Was a bit before my time but a legendary place which apparently welcomed no-one, including the regulars :hehe:
Heard there was an OB sting there once where they had a stakeout in a house behind it to watch the comings and goings
:hehe:

Re: The best pub in Cardiff?
Back in 1980 a minibus full of Chelsea hooligans stopped off for a pint in the Dusty on their way back from Swansea. Big mistake :hehe:

Now that's a story I'd like to read a few chapters on. Iif only social media was around then. Facebook live, from the Dusty Forge car park :hehe:

Re: The best pub in Cardiff?
Three Elms is pretty good, Sam owners as the Queens Vaults.

Re: The best pub in Cardiff?
Play pool in the Napier on a Sunday, sure they used it as location for the bar in Star Wars :hehe:

I travel to Canton, for the best homely pub, which is THE CANTON.
It's like your nanna's front room, but it is full of personalities and a great game of Don (cards), on a Sunday.
Music every Sunday, darts and pool and a robbing barsteward of a landlord :hehe: makes it one of the last local pubs in Cardiff.
Won't suit a lot of people though.
I used to live on Springfield Place and I've spent plenty of time in the Corp and some in the Butchers, Napier etc. but I don't think I've EVER had a pint in the Canton.

The best pubs are outside of Cardiff.

Hand-pumped SA Gold is pretty good, if the landlord knows how to keep Real Ale, which is a problem with most so they revert to lager types and the awful "creamflow" or "smooth" bitters ( as per that ghastly John Smiths shite.:puke:

I used to work near there and it was our "Friday pub". Awful place, but I'll see your village inn and raise you a ffynon wen. Nice building, but other than that, absolutely no redeeming features whatsoever.
My favourite pub? Most of them are more like restaurants than puns these days, but my favourite is probably the Deri.

Went in there one morning and asked the landlord what all the sawdust was on the floor. He said it was last nights tables and chairs!

Re: The best pub in Cardiff?
Unless a pub is selling KP Nuts and Scampi Fries, from card that slowly reveals a naked woman each time a packet is removed, then I'm not interested .

Reminds me of playing a darts match in a pub in Ely. (Old White Lion?? rings a bell - by the bridge) whilst we were playing, suddenly a chair went flying across the room, smashing against the wall. Then people just carried on as if nothing had happened.

Awful place, I think "The Slam" in Pentwyn was just as bad wasn't it?
The Hendre in Trowbridge was awful too, mainly because of the Gypos.

The slam, or the Murrayfield, as it was known then, was my Friday after work pub, before the village inn opened. Horrible pub.
