It may well be more difficult to forge 'perfectly' but how many of us stare at banknotes with an eyeglass?
People spend notes, and so long as the outlet takes them nobody really pays much attention.

The fake 2 pound coins in circulation are so good they fool vending machines. Whenever I used to get pound coins I would put them in an ashtray. When that was full I'd check them over. On average, over several years 12% were fake.

Went to the bank to check this out.
Drew out £100 in coins, 7 of them were duds.

Those folded fivers are like coiled springs and jump out, when you open your wallet. :-)
