Re: Westgate Pub To Reopen
However, it now looks set to reopen as a bar again after Cardiff Council's licensing sub committee approved an application for a premises licence at a meeting on Wednesday, January 24. The Grade II listed property which most long-term Cardiff residents know, even if only via the distinctive façade, was built in 1932 by Sir Percy Thomas who is credited with some of south Wales' most recognisable buildings and structures, including The Temple of Peace in Cathays Park and Swansea's Guildhall.
Re: Westgate Pub To Reopen
Great news. Kinda important location too to tie Cathedral Road and Cowbridge Road in with the city centre.
Re: Westgate Pub To Reopen
I'll give it 3 years at most.
Soulless place.

Let's hope it gets a better walk in, I'd try sell some cheaper beers / food to take on the silly prices on Cathedral Road. Perhaps some match day offers for City fans quite a few walk past on match day. Very few real pubs left in Canton

Pubs left -
The Kings - awful these days
The Napier - busy and been 'done up'
The Ivor Davies - shutting down
The Hudo Lounge - nice but not a pub
The Corp - great place these days
The Canton Cross - usually banging
The Canron Hotel - Not been there in years
The Butchers - Grim but popular
The Vic Park - ok boozer
Thats quite a few pubs left when you think about it

St Canna’s and Crafty Devil Brewery on Llandaf Rd too.
Wyndham Crescent has the Romilly and Robin Hood if they’re still open?
And the Lansdowne. Though its been a good few years since I last went.
Despite our stadium being a generic modern bowl, we’ve at least managed to stay within the community that’s built up around the club for the past century or more. Much better than having to go to an out of town industrial/retail estate like Reading, Derby, Huddersfield, Middlesbrough, etc.

The Romilly is indeed still open - and by far the most pleasant pre-match watering hole, in my humble opinion
Don't tell everyone though as getting a drink doesn't take too much time at all.

Why is the Ivor Davies shutting down? For renovations or permanent?

St. Canna's is Slizza now. The people who own the pizza business out the back have taken it over. They've spent some money doing it up and have a better range of draft beers. It's still expensive though but quite a few City fans are in there before a match.
Although not a pub there is Chapter as well. Reasonable range of beers and a lot of City fans but no discount for season ticket holders anymore.

The sale price is cheaper if you buy it with a breakfast.

Adding Crafty Devil and Canton Libs to the mix too. Also Lansdowne, Victoria Park, Clive Arms, although I appreciate that's stretching it out a bit. Canton Rugby Club and I know people used to go to Gol Centre too. Not sure on the Chinese place that used to be the Ninian?
Few in Grangetown too, which is where I go more often than not now, due to Grangetown station
Basically for what is essentially a new edge of city stadium we don't do bad at all.
Pretty disappointed about the Ivor Davies. I've been to all of these pubs but that's probably the go to. Used to go to Admiral Napier all the time but haven't for years

Went there before Wales v Turkey on your recommendation. Very nice too!
