Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
I would have thought Meite was sure to get a suspension given the way the card was produced and the general acceptance of the decision by the Cardiff contingent.
As for who replaces him, James Waite played furthest forward of the central midfielders (we played what was probably a 4-5-1 cum 4-3-3 with Evans and Wootton the wide players, but Waite's advanced position often turned it into a 4-4-1-1) and he went up front after the sending off - he's played up there before and I think there's a good chance they'll use him there in the next few games. Pilkington doesn't seem to be playing for the Development team this season, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him, Madine and, maybe, Tomlin get a game each in Meite's absence, I'd guess this is more likely than promoting players from the Under 18s (if I had to guess, I'd say the "wall" will stay up this season).
Cameron Coxe is injured, but there's a disappointingly low number of our players involved in the Wales senior and age group fixtures played in the last ten days or so - I noticed Eli King played for the Under 17s in a defeat by Kazakhstan, but he was the only City player involved I think. That was a good win for the Under 19s though and from the little I read on the game, Isaak Davies could easily have got a goal - we have had a very poor record when it comes to producing young strikers since Earnie came on the scene, so it's at least encouraging that we had two, who are both well under nineteen, starting at that level for their country.

Pic of Sion Spence with his foot in a cast, thus explaining his absence. Apologies if this is old news.

Agreed - kudos to BOA for finding out about Spence's injury..

Positive feedback from coach and player alike here on Monday's dawning of a new corner being turned for our under-23s.

A 2-1 win for the Academy team at Charlton today having been one down at half time, the promising strike pairing of Isaak Davies and Dan Griffiths with a goal each. Back to the top of the table, 2 points clear with a game in hand.

Congratulations to City Under 9s and Under 10s for a successful weekend which featured wins over Man City and West Ham.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
City's Under 18s ensured that they would stay top of their league for at least another week after a 2-0 victory at winless Colchester today. isaak Davies put City ahead early on and then had a penalty saved in the tenth minute - Dan Griffiths clinched the win with a second goal two minutes from time.

Interesting to see that whoever was doing that twitter feed couldn't tell Davies and Griffiths apart, it's not just me then. Bellamy talked earlier in the season about having to coach young strikers to work with a partner up front as they are so used to playing on their own these days. Credit to him for making the Davies/Griffiths partnership work so well, especially as they are very similar.

The Under 23s are at home to Palace at Leckwith today, kick off 1.00 pm.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Another giveaway by the Under 23s as they added to their sizeable collection of matches not won despite having 2-0 leads at one time. At least I've now seen Gary Madine score a goal for us mind - he, Connolly and Smithies all played and he nodded in a Cameron Coxe cross from close range to give City an early lead which they held until half time. Sub Jamie Veale capitalised on the Palace keeper spilling a Madine shot to make it 2-0 with less than twenty minutes to go and, with Palace (who had Scott Dann in their team) not having had an effort on target before then, a comeback for the visitors seemed miles off, but they got one back on seventy eight minutes with the best goal of the game and then three minutes later capitalised on naive City defending to level - by the end, the visitors were looking the more likely winners.
Neil Warnock watched the second half of the game - I doubt it if he was impressed.

Thanks for that.
A lot of central midfielders at that level and we may only be left with Ralls at the end of the season in the first team squad, do you see any of them making the step up? Is Duffus still not fully fit? I was hoping he'd push on this season.
You're part of a very elite group to have seen Cornelius, Madine and Fred score for us. You should get a T-shirt made, other City fans will look at it and bow down to you in respect. Didn't Berget score in one of those games too? If so, did you see it?

Duffus played yesterday and did a decent no fills type job playing in front of the defence, it may not have been a coincidence that Palace got back into the game after he went off. Yes I did see Berget score for us, saw Burgstaller do so as well (he's scored for the first team in that game we played against Coventry at Northampton though I seem to remember) - here's my piece on yesterday's game

but I'm going to start a probably doomed attempt to get some replies to it in a separate thread because we might have had a "wonderkid" in the side yesterday.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Three City players in the Wales Under 16 squad to compete for the Victory Shield in Ireland later this month. All three names are new to me and it's a bit disappointing to see such a low number from the club included, but I notice that Swansea only have two.

All five of those lads appeared in the Cardiff v Swansea u-15 game you watched last year.

I believe that's Ligendza in the top picture. You've seen him this season too (unless you'd left early to beat the traffic) when he came on as a late sub for the Academy against Palace, one of three appearances he's made for them this season. I'm getting ahead of myself here but would he be the first player named Siyabonga to play for City? I can't think of another.
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
I did see Ligendza come on as sub against Palace and then him and Ntazana Mayembe rushed over to the artificial pitch close by where the Under 16s were playing to be brought on as subs. That match kicked off well after the Under 18s one and so they played nearly all of the second half - Palace certainly struggled to contain them and they both played a part in the late goal which sealed a 3-1 win - think it was Ligendza who scored it actually.
As for your last sentence, Siyabonga Holt played two games for us in 1931/32 before leaving to play in Berne - we lost both of the matches he played in without scoring a goal.

I'm pretty sure we would have had a 4th player involved in the victory shield squad Bob but Aiden Mcnamara who has been involved with the squads had to pull out injured.

Of course, Bomber Bonga. I'd forgotten about him. Thanks for that, I knew you'd be the man to ask.

A 17-0 win for the Academy boys today in the cup, against Tiger Bay. Even Warnock's son scored.

I wasn't sure what to expect there. We got taken to extra time by Ely Rangers last season.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
The Development side are 2-1 up at half time at top of the table Ipswich - Jack Bodenham and James Waite with the goals for a young City team which fell a goal down early on.
We have someone called Babatomiwo playing centre forward for us (I think that's his name at least, it's very hard to read with the way City have been showing their teams on social media lately).
-
Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Finished 2-2, so another case of the Under 23s not being able to hold on to a lead, but, with Ipswich having only lost once this season, this was a decent result for such a young team.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
A 1-0 win for the Academy at QPR today which takes them five points clear at the top of the table. Ben Margetson (Martyn's son) got the goal. A late red card for striker Dan Griffiths, I've no idea what for though.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
We've drawn Hull away in the FA Youth Cup 3rd round. We're top of the South section of League 2 with 24 points from 11 games, Hull are bottom of the North section with 5 points from 13 games but football is a funny old game (unless you're watching a Russell Slade team, of course).

We played Hull down here in August and beat them, pretty comfortably, 3-1, but I'm quite surprised at what a poor league record they have this season, because they didn't look that bad a team that day - they scored a brilliant goal (the first one we conceded this season).
I see Ipswich and the wurzels lost more ground on us over the weekend.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Just watched the highlights of Saturday's game for the Under 18s, Dan Griffiths was sent off for dissent after a penalty shout by City, so that probably means a three game ban which could well include the Youth Cup match.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
The Development team are at home to Watford this evening at Cardiff City Stadium, kick 7 o clock.
Also, belated congratulations to City's Under 12 side who beat some very good teams on their way to qualifying for the Truce Cup in Belgium next month;-
