Not sure why 30 ventilators this week is a bad thing. I think the NHS is still coping at the moment. The test will be if the next few weeks see a big increase in ventilators delivered.

If you are just about to be hooked up to a ventilator it must be really reassuring to be told that ‘there is a minor technical fault with this one but don't worry about it’. Would you want to be connected to one that hadn't been properly checked and tested ? No didn't think so. There is always at least one smart Alec who thinks he knows better than all the experts.
The issue, Mozzer, is that this is too little too late. Sat on their hands for weeks despite medical and scientific community warnings of what was to come. Clueless.
I guess that these will be classed as a "clinical trial", so in this case it is MHRA would review the data presented and decide whether it is sufficient to allow release of the product.
The deliverables would be similar to CE marking that you would need to fully release a product in Europe (or the UK), or a 510k in the states.
I think some of the CPAP dvices that people have tried to rush to market have struggled to present enough clinical evidence that the efficacy of the product is sufficient.
For ventilators the bar is even higher as there are rigorous standards for medical electrical equipment, usability etc, and things which are keeping people alive are going to be really scrutinised, as any mistakes will lead to death.
Medtronic have recently made the design of one of their ventilators open source, so that anyone can copy it, although even then you have to demonstrate that the production of the product is sufficiently in control.
So not exaclty something that can be done very quickly
I can't imagine Corbyn being much use in this situation and the less said for the rest of his front benchers the better.
The Labour election campaign was just awful.
Hate to quote Boris but he really did just dither about.
I don't think across the globe many governments are going to come out of this without critisicm or what ifs.
Worth remembering however that on 14th Jan the who were saying person to person transmission wasn't happening in China.
Lot of mistakes in China and everywhere but a select few countries.
Dear Croesy
I see you didn't respond to my reply to your post last night.
I take it you accept you were wrong then
Regards
Elwood
The original posted is very misguided. There is an excess of over 2000 critical care beds with ventilators currently available but the new Nightingale hospitals will provide huge additional capacity. Success or failure of the government does not rely on the number of ventilators and I suggest we all stand back and avoid becoming armchair experts in a subject we know very little about.
Definition of a moron: still holding idiotic opinions even in the face of death
Ireland had 1,200 ventilators in Mid-March. 8 days later 1,000 more were made and delivered.
Stop making excuses, Boris was warned a long time ago. He was too busy taking it on the chin. The UK walked away from an EU agreement to source equipment back in early Feb.
The UK govt. have their own spin doctors, they don't need you too.
