The Demise Of Smash

Pre lockdown I’d go for a pint or two most weekends, obviously football, maybe a meal and a few miscellaneous shopping trips. Every time I’d get back to the house I’d empty my pockets onto the unit in the room and there’d inevitably be nigh on £20 in smash, pound coins galore, 50ps, 20ps etc. This would be my float through the week for buying odds & sods, not a stitch now, well about £1.20 which has been there for a while. I’m not sure if I’m saving money or what? Of course I am, can’t wait to get back spending again though and coming home with my smash because after a few pints I just change a note because I’m incapable of counting out the correct change:-)

I'm so glad that stuff is practically worthless here, if you're unfotunate enough to aquire any of it during the day you just throw it a jar. I say pratically, because obviously it adds up. I had a goldfish bowl once with $500 in it. Now we have a coffee can with mostly small stuff. We keep the quarters in the car for parking meters.

It was dreadful stuff , whenever my mother made that I would fake a stomach ache

I use my card all the time mainly because Smash does my head in.

I prefer to use cash every time. This has been discussed on here many times, some prefer card, some cash, down to the individual. I’ve got my reasons for using cash which I reckon suit me.

I was only looking at the change jar I keep every year for Christmas expenses yesterday and thinking how miserable it looked - it must be six weeks or more since I paid cash for anything.
