Potentially amazing news for Wales
If this ever actually gets completed. The Wales and Borders rail franchise has been awarded to French State owned Keolis and Spanish owned Amey.
This includes not only the day to day running of the routes and the rolling stock, but also the wider Cardiff Metro scheme.
This is absolutely vital for Wales, and will include faster, more regular trains and new stops and lines, including a direct route to the airport and hugely long awaited new stops serving the East of Cardiff such as St Mellons, Rumney and Llanrumney.
This will take a huge amount of cars off our roads, meaning journeys by all means will be easier, quicker, cleaner and not the stress fest they are today.
Also, this is a socialist leaning contract, meaning capped profits for the companies involved, so that the people of Wales are put first above shareholders.
Fantastic news and well done the Welsh Government

I think this is great news as well, but I fear your final two paragraphs will be enough to turn some on here against it :hehe:.
Re: Potentially amazing news for Wales
It appears to be great news after the botched job of the last franchise award.
One thing people should bear in mind is that things aren't going to get better overnight. While the new franchise winners are still running the shit stock they've been left with, standards are going to remain virtually the same.

And the same staff, who are transferring over from Arriva.

Not really. If it works, it works..
Re: Potentially amazing news for Wales
This will probably mean it'll be the norm to pay for a rail ticket to and from games. Barry/Grangetown line.
Re: Potentially amazing news for Wales
The whole franchise system is at fault, it's just badly implemented.
You get the results that the system incentivises and this system doesn't incentivise good service for the passenger.
It will probably be similar to arriva
Re: Potentially amazing news for Wales
Now all we need are some actual rail links within Wales.
