City’s One Season Wonders
Peter Hooper 22 goals in the one season at the Club, he was superb that season, 62/63.
Any more?

He went early in the 72/3 season for £25000 + Gil Reece and David Powell in part exchange....I think Sheffield United got the better of the deal. Even though I think he only played about 7 games for them before being sold to Bristol Rovers.

What about Craig Bellamy in his season long loan?

Re: City’s One Season Wonders
Trevor Lee? Signed for £5000 and scored what proved top be the winner against Swansea , Xmas 1983. Released at the end of the season.

Re: City’s One Season Wonders
Michael Chopra, when we signed him for £500,000 and sold him a year later for £5m.

He was good when he came back, albeit not as lethal as he was but still quality. Scored 41 in 115 appearances.
63 in 159 in total for us including his first year, loved watching him play.

Re: City’s One Season Wonders
Who was that Irish fella, who scored the winner (as normal) at Wolves, the year that Poxy Moxy banned us. ?
Just came to me, was it Jason Byrne ????
PS:----this is a one game wonder :hehe:

What a left foot, not seen a shot like his since at the club, superb, like an Exocet Missile a whole 20 years before the Exocet was invented!

One magnificent season. 22 goals from the left wing. Agree about his shooting. As you say, like a rocket.

I remember one goal v Luton I think. 40 yrds and the ball seemed to swerve past the goalie.
What happened to him?

Left after the one season because of contract disagreements I believe.

Funnily enough, his predecessor on the left wing, Johnny Watkins, was also a Bristolian with a rocket shot.
Watkins played for Brizzle City, us, then Brizzle Rovers while Hooper played for Rovers, us, then City.
Hooper passed away in 2011.

Think Derek Hogg from WBA may have been in between Watkins and Hooper.

Sorry I took it as who was exceptional for one season, not who was playing for one season only

Re: City’s One Season Wonders
Not a full season but a player who supplied my all time favourite city moment, Tony Villars, his goal against Palace that kept us up 74, always thought he would go on to great things but sadly ended up going to County and then drifting back into the Welsh league.
