That doesn’t make sense? Which ever way you want to wrap it up, we are a “small” country.
Nobody’s using it as a “shield”. That must be just in your own mind.

Re: WALES No 1 Team in WORLD!
Celebrate it whilst it lasts costs defeat or 2 against Ireland will soon have us back at 2nd or 3rd.

Actually 8 Rugby World Cups
NZ - 3
SA - 2
Aus - 2
Eng - 1
Last 8 football world cups - 5 winners (one more than rugby)
Germany (West and unified) - 2
Brazil - 2
France - 2
Spain - 1
Italy - 1
How about we extend this to finalists
8 Rugby world cups contended by 5 countries
Finalists -
NZ 4
Australia 4
France 3
England 3
South Africa 2
Last 8 Football World Cups - 8 Finalists
Germany 3
France 3
Brazil 3
Italy 2
Argentina 2
Spain 1
Netherlands 1
Croatia 1
Semi-Finalists? OK
8 Rugby World Cups - 8 teams making the semis
New Zealand 7
France 6
Australia 6
England 4
South Africa 4
Argentina 2
Wales 2
Scotland 1
Most recent 8 Football World Cups - 16 teams making the semis
Germany 5
Brazil 4
Netherlands 3
France 3
Italy 3
Argentina 2
England 2
Croatia 2
Bulgaria 1
Sweden 1
South Korea 1
Turkey 1
Portugal 1
Uruguay 1
Spain 1
Belgium 1
I don't think the list of semi-finalists will grow in rugby, and I wonder how many tournaments it would take for them to get 16 different semi-finalists. Considering Scotland are the only ones with a solitary semi-final appearance, and considering the only notable exclusion at the moment is Ireland, I doubt we'll see 12 different semi-finalists in the rugby world cup in our lifetimes. Japan could make it 10, but who could ever get it to 12?
Well done, Wales went top. But, the sportsman that most of the world will name if you mention you are Welsh is Gareth Bale.

And remind me again how many countries entered the football world cups?
The egg is a joke. Thankfully, living in England, it gets the relative exposure it warrants: not much.

Ok. So wales reaching no 1 in the rugby union rankings is nothing to shout about. Fair enough.

Re: WALES No 1 Team in WORLD!
Does it matter how many countries play the game? Not really.
England just won the Cricket World Cup in a tournament of 8.
The Rugby League world cup is effectively a competition between 3 teams.
The womens netball world cup is the same.
If you're world champions or world number 1 then you're still top of the tree and should celebrate that fact.

You've taken the time to do this just to belittle your own country's achievement of reaching #1 in the world rankings at a sport. That's such a weird reaction to something positive, I hope you're not like this in all aspects of your life.

Where have I belittled it you sensitive nonce? Someone claimed the rugby world cup was more competitive than the football one. I pointed out it isn't and the only response is "you took all that time".

I actually meant from qualifying onwards, not just the finals - a true measure of the size of a tournament.
But anyway.....

Re: WALES No 1 Team in WORLD!
Why do people who don't like rugby feel the need to have huge rants about it? Let people enjoy things lads, don't waste your breathe on something you apparently "hate".

Re: WALES No 1 Team in WORLD!
And in a surprising development, revealed exclusively on ccmb, it has emerged that football is more popular globally than rugby. More on this breaking story as we get it.

Why do people who have huge rants about people who don't like rugby, post about rugby on a message board where there are a large number of people who don't like rugby? You'd think they'd have posted on a rugby message board and all happily enjoyed their 5 minutes of fame.

I'm sorry.
I blame all those public school toffs taking their sports over to the colonies 150 years ago.

I’d say Wales rugby union has had a bit more than 5 minutes of fame. The fact that you don’t like that, amuses me .

Re: WALES No 1 Team in WORLD!
Wales being ranked No 1 in the IRB rankings is absolutely BRILLIANT ..... Well played and well deserved. Remember NZ have been No 1 for a record 509 Weeks ..... That in itself is pretty damn Amazing :wales:

Trouble and sadly rankings are worthless other than in seeding ,they dont mean winning tournaments.
