If they are at it due to injuries they should be investigated and charged accordingly . If one rule applies to Boro. then at least the same should apply to Derby to ensure fair play and warn off others of attempting to flout the rules. Investigation at least I reckon.

Have the match officials made a statement? Surely postponing the game is their decision

BBC are now saying "Due to a frozen pitch"
sounds like Derby are changing their story.

To be honest Mike I haven`t seen any yet, The Derby statement didn`t mention the ref, or any inspection?

Yeah , saw that just now. Frozen pitch at Pride park, no undersoil heating or preparation for a sky game with snow forecast?

They do have Under soil heating, but Michael's right, the ref would have the final say on whether the match went ahead surely?

They called it of at about 8am, surely the ref wouldn't have even been there then.
Edit: Also, Derby police saying decision was made by the club.

The whole way it was postponed was very “unconventional”. First it was a tweet by something called DCFC Rams Police, whoever they are. Then it was at least half an hour later when Derby Counties official twitter feed announced it.

Yeah of course , but the original reason given was not the state of the pitch, that has come later .The original reason given was,
Following persistent heavy snowfall in Derby overnight, the surrounding areas at Pride Park Stadium have been left in an unsafe condition for supporters, staff and officials.

It is starting to smell very iffy.
A new match date will be communicated to supporters in due course on dcfc.co.uk.

The ref only makes the call on the pitch conditions not the safety conditions in the ground & surrounding areas.

Out of interest were and Derby players at the stadium? Just wondering if they knew it was being called off in advance.

Well, Derby are now saying it was called off because of a frozen pitch despite them having undersoil heating - if the game was called off without a pitch inspection, then there has to be an enquiry.

Meanwhile thirty miles down the road at Leicester, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright have just been interviewed at half time in the Wigan v Southampton match on a lovely green pitch with no snow to be seen.

Official statement from EFL: "The decision to postpone this afternoon’s fixture between @dcfcofficial and @CardiffCityFC was made first thing this morning following discussions between Derby County, Derbyshire Police and the local Safety Advisory Group (SAG).
"It was taken in the interests of spectator safety following heavy overnight snow falling in the Derby area which had built up on the roads surrounding the stadium.
"Cardiff City were informed of the decision and the reasons behind it as soon as it was reached."

Yeah they do look cold though....
Why couldn`t Derby just have slightly delayed kick off and told sky to do one. They always shove another Spanish game on when schedule is disrupted anyway.

So a local carve up then?

Further statement from ELF: "An announcement was made at 8.30am and the EFL is satisfied from the information shared that these were the reasons the match was postponed & will provide Cardiff City with the opportunity to proivde any additonal information they feel is relevant, before responding further."
Sounds like they're going to whitewash this, the bastards.

I arrived at the ground just after the team coach at around 9.15. The players were milling around throwing the odd snowball and seemed in good spirits. There was no sign of any Derby players but there were a couple of officials around.
I was told by a group of five ground staff who were walking away from the stadium. They said that they had been there since 6am this morning and had just been notified that they could go home. The roads past the ground were fine. I turned the car in the the business park opposite and these roads were icy and untreated as were the pavements further down the hill. There did not seem that there had been much effort being made to give the game every possibility of being on. That said I could not hand on heart say that there was not a risk, particularly to the elderly, on the approaches to the ground. It could have been called either way in my opinion and perhaps the situation with the Derby team made that call easier.
It was a long way to go for a burger and chips!

As far as I am aware I thought the original excuse was to do with staffing (though their megastore was open) then very shortly afterwards they changed it to safety concerns. Methinks they are changing their story on the hoof. If I were a Derby Co official I'd be extremely concerned how:
- the issue is getting away from their control and
- the penalty they must be now getting from the EFL.
There is a mountain of photographic evidence to castigate this ludicrous (if not divisive) postponement.

Thing is this is the Championship, so you can't hide away when you're looking to get back on track as your next match is quite likely to be just as tough.
Oh, they've got Sunderland at home.

Wonder why the club and council would not treat the areas concerned, with snow forecast, with a large crowd expected in the area the following morning?
Hope you had a safe journey and enjoyed your burger and chips mate, top man.
