Films you've never got around to watching.
Last night I was casting around for something to watch and came across
" Brassed Off ".
I knew the vague outline of the plot from reviews and thought I'd give it
a go.
Really enjoyed it , summed up the era of coal mine closures and was packed
with great British actors who were younger ( or alive ) when it was made in
1996.
Pete Postlethwaite's speech at the end had me blubbing away like a good 'un.
What films have you put off watching and then really enjoyed ?:sherlock:

Brassed Off is a film I want to see. Only just got around to watching The Godfather trilogy after all these years which was worth the wait.

One of my favourite films of all time.
The bit where the band take part in all of those competitions on the same day but just end up pissed sums up local, amateur bands, choirs etc. It painted a very true picture!

Always liked watching this film, to get the feelgood factor back. (the same as watching "It's a Wonderful Life")
Haven't watched it for years now and I can't remember if Tara gets her "BRASSES" out. :hehe:

Re: Films you've never got around to watching.
Finally got a copy of "Sorcerer" which I've wanted to see for years and a remake of one of my favorite films "The Wages of Fear". Directed by William Friedkin (French Connection, Killer Joe, To Live and Die in L.A.). Thinking I've hyped the film so much in my mind that it can only be disappointing.
I would fully recommend any of the films I've just mentioned if anyone hasn't seen them though...
Not sure if Brassed Off will hold up. I remember it being a bit of a formula film. Pete Poselthwaite in it though (RIP). I got hammered with him once in a bar in rural Australia. Very random!

What did you make of number 3?

Re: Films you've never got around to watching.
I've never seen any of the Back to the Future films and am always curious as to whether I've missed out.
Are they worth watching, are they a bit dated now?

Tried loads of times to watch it but always switched off, usually when Sofia Coppola was on screen. Forced myself to give a proper chance recently and actually thought it was great. Really revelatory with all the Vatican bank stuff. Definitely one for the tin foil hatters.

Would love to watch those for the first time again. If they are dated, they are dated in a great way. To the point where those films are un-remakable. Would urge you to try and binge watch all three in one go...

No , watch and enjoy. Two are set in the past anyway and some of the ideas in the future one ( number 2 )
are still fresh.

Definitely worth watching. Back to the Future 1 is probably my favourite film ever.

Not quite up to one and two. It was a similar length to the others but dragged in places.Still a fine film in its own right.

Re: Films you've never got around to watching.
Thanks for the reviews, they're on ITV quite regularly so I'll record them all next time they are on.

Re: Films you've never got around to watching.
I watched Mean Streets (1973) the other day with De Niro and Keitel as it was one of the few gangster films I hadnt seen.
It hadnt aged well.

Re: Films you've never got around to watching.
Toy Story 3
Monsters University
I watched Toy Story 1 & 2 when I was younger, and enjoyed them. And loved Monsters Inc when I was a kid. But I just haven't got the motivation to watch the sequels.

Brassed Off is a brilliant film.
I watched it again a few months ago - and also saw a srage version last year that was almost as good.
I love the way Chumbawumba (the best thing to come out of Leeds - ever) used the Pete Postlethwaite speech from his hospital bed to start Tubthumping (the best track to come out of Chumbawumba - ever).

It always chokes me.
On the original topic, I watched the fully restored version of Metropolis (Fritz Lang) a few weeks back after only watching snippets before - some of them in early 80s late night music videos - when the world was young! It has a weak ending but otherwise is a fantastic piece of early cinema - full of power and drama. It was made in 1927 too - so a year worth revisiting.

Matrix 2 is ok 3 I wouldn't bother , Logan is worth watching , I haven't seen the x-men apocolypse. The bourne film with Jeremy Renner is alright but not as good as the first 3 films with Matt Damon. Haven't seen the latest one with Matt Damon yet
