FT: CARDIFF CITY 0 - 3 LEEDS UNITED. Match thread
Saturday 13th January, ko 3:00pm.
Match Officials:
Referee: Oliver Langford
Assistant Referee: Hristo Karaivanov
Assistant Referee: Greg Read
Fourth Official: Ed Duckworth
Erol Bulut is expected to return to the dugout for Cardiff City’s Championship clash with Leeds United.
Bluebirds boss Bulut was absent for his side’s 4-0 FA Cup third round loss to Sheffield Wednesday due to illness.
But assistant coach Nikolaos Karydas – who took charge of Cardiff at Hillsborough – says Bulut should be on the sidelines when the Bluebirds welcome Leeds to the Welsh capital on Saturday.
“I can inform you that’s he’s (Bulut) healthy,” said Karydas.
“I believe that he will be back soon.
“I’m sure that against Leeds he will be on the bench.”

Despite everyone on Steve Johnstone's Cardiff City Phone-in last night, being optimistic about a City win or even a drawm I can see a defeat sadly. Leeds have to many good players, and we have no decent striker at the club.

If we win this, it’s free drinks in the Canton

Personally - and this is only me - I never forecast a defeat especially at home against opposition from the same division. That’s just the way I am - blindly optimistic! A draw or a win for City is my opinion this Saturday.

I'd take a draw now.
Leeds will fancy their chances.
Mind you they usually do.

the second half at Elland Road is as comprehensively outplayed as I've seen us at this level in years

Yes, but we also became ultra defensive and tried to hold on. We stopped getting players forward, got 11 men behind the ball and gave them the ball for 45 minutes. To have conceded as late as we did was sickening but totally deserved and we got what we deserved for being so defensive.

Easy to be outplayed if you stop playing. A little more adventurous and we would have won that game 1-3 or 1-4.

Absolutely. Their keeper might has well have had a picnic in the centre circle in the second half. We could easily have pinched another on the break.

And yet we had the best chance of the second half, with a one on one with their keeper, sadly missed (to make it 0-3 I believe)

Have a look on the Cardiff City fixtures site.
In the 57 minute, Ugbo is released by an Ng pass, only to blast over meekly

I was struggling to remember us missing a sitter. xG, whether it's any good or not, has it down as 0.08, so barely even a decent chance. It's maybe worth noting as well that the chance doesn't even feature in the extended highlights on the Cardiff City website.

Re: CARDIFF CITY v LEEDS UNITED. Match thread
Difficult to be confident, but Leeds away form a bit patchy. Coupled with our record against them, guess there is a flicker of hope.
Draw 1-1

Re: CARDIFF CITY v LEEDS UNITED. Match thread
No Ashford in the team because he's in Bournemouth now with the u21's
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v LEEDS UNITED. Match thread
Over 25,000 sold so far , hopefully with a decent walk up , we could see our biggest crowd of the season
-
Re: CARDIFF CITY v LEEDS UNITED. Match thread
Who is our striker likely to be with Ugbo gone? I'm tempted to say we'll edge it but we need to improve on recent performances. Leeds aren't a Leicester, we have a chance

I doubt Ugbo would have started had he stayed here, it’s a difficult decision for Bulut, but I think in the absence of a recognised number 9, he’ll start with Meite
Let’s hope some of these deals for players happen sooner rather than later!
Our squad is paper thin ATM
