I caught about 20 minutes of the Nigel Owens Show this morning.

..spoiled with so many rugby interruptions.

Seriously though, I know some folk say football could learn from how players respect the referee in rugby, but how those players have to listen to him drone on and on for what seems likes minutes as he 'explains to the lads' every single decision , I've no idea.

Much rather a "for f*cks sake ref" or "you're not f****ng serious", and then just get on with it..

Best RU referee out there. It’s all about respect.

He isn’t a though is he?
It’s all about him akin to Mike Dean in football.
Believes his own hype.

He's not the best ref in rugby but that's not because he takes time to explain the big decisions - what a strange criticism.
Football needs to learn about respecting the ref from rugby otherwise the grassroots game is going to end.

The game this morning was of the highest standard you can get in RU. He referred it to perfection.
It’s a breath of fresh air to hear the referee explain his decisions to the captains, and for players to accept it with no abuse.

He's not a bad ref but not the best.

Throwing in a few one liners like "This isn't soccer" has done more for him than his refereeing ability in my opinion.

It also irritates me when he talks a player through a point after a decision three times at a snails pace. He isn't the quickest speaker anyway and it is not needed.
The way he spoke to Owen Farrell earlier was downright ridiculous. It was like he was telling off a toddler who had little grasp of the language.

He did, but still one of the best refs IMHO.

So glad to see it's not just me who thinks he's overhyped. How football refs put up with the abuse they get is beyond me but Nigel Owen has little man syndrome the way he talks down to the players. It's the players we all want to watch not some dickhead ref spouting his shite.

The best referee is, in football and rugby, the one who referees a good game and when you are talking about it later you cannot remember who he was.
