Why are Drakeford and Sadiq Khan trying to stop cars in their City's ?
Doing all they can to make it expensive and less enjoyable?
Why?

Re: Why are Drakeford and Sadiq Khan trying to stop cars in their City's ?
Blade runners hitting back in London, could that grow countrywide, protesting against emission zones and excessively low speeds?

Cripes, how many are you hoping to catch in that tiny fishing net of yours with this one?

Re: Why are Drakeford and Sadiq Khan trying to stop cars in their City's ?
Because the vast majority of car journeys are unnecessary, contribute to a serious amount of premature deaths and pollute the environment. Simple as.

Re: Why are Drakeford and Sadiq Khan trying to stop cars in their City's ?
don't they also have congestion charges in Birmingham?

Just googled there are quite a few!
Most don't affect me, just Wales, London and Bristol.

I don't support it. I am very pro public transport, walking and cycling but I am not anti car. Central London is as congested as ever since we the congestion charge.
Also, what counts as an unnecessary journey? On that basis isn't every restaurant and holiday also unnecessary in the fight against climate change?

I can understand London to a certain extent, they have a good underground system and it's quicker than moving around by car, but Cardiff was brilliant to move around the City, now they closed many of the main routes in and ruined it.

Since 2003, there are 4m more cars on the road in the UK, that's a 15% increase. Since the congestion charge was introduced, traffic in central London has fallen by 18%. So, there's more cars, and less traffic in London so what you have said is untrue.

Everyone should be anti-car. Having said that, that would involve investing in services so good luck with Labour and the Tories doing that :hehe:
Makes me laugh that some right wingers think Labour are pure evil when they're basically re-badged Tories at this point.

Re: Why are Drakeford and Sadiq Khan trying to stop cars in their City's ?
An estimated 30,000 people die due to air pollution from cars every year. In addition to that huge amounts of children develop asthma and damage their lungs due to it.
Car pollution should be looked at the same way as smoking.
Improved public transport to minimise car journeys is a must.

It's a global trend. Not sure you can blame Labour for the low emission zones in Paris, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Berlin, Hong Kong, Brussels, Beijing etc

No, I wasn't blaming Labour, just noticed that all those councils were Labour, RJK's response was correct they tend to represent urban areas, so maybe that's the connection.
Khan does seem anti-car though, and Drakeford represents Wales so the opposite of urban, and he does seem to be trying to make driving less beneficial and grinding the roads to a halt.

Paris, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Berlin, Hong Kong, Brussels, Beijing, London = All congested
Wales isn't but the roads are due to underdevelopment and anti-car measures.

Wales doesn't have congestion charging though

Drakeford is different to Starmer though isn't he?

No just anti-car measures, road closures, narrowing, excessively low speeds, bus lanes everywhere, and a motorway not fit for purpose at 50 miles an hour with a bottleneck stopping traffic completely two or three times a day.
Talk of a nice congestion charge for Cardiff isn't there, although you can't get near the centre they've blocked it all off.

Wherever you are, you need an excellent public transport alternative if you're going to be anti-car. I think the cities I mentioned have, as does London. Don't think Cardiff/Wales has though.
Bristol certainly doesn't - it introduced its LEZ at the exact time it was slashing bus services.

A lot working class pleasures have been taxed heavily over the last 30 to 40 years. Whatever next, a tax on how many dumps you have a day?
