What would be the big deal with calling it English sitcoms ?
You know full well that if they put a Welsh language sitcom in that wasn't particularly good (yes I do remember it) then it would be tokenism.
It's like doing a list of the top 20 UK footballers and there's no Northern Irish or Scottish players in it. It doesn't make it English/Welsh only. It's reflecting reality, or in this case popularity.
A best loved list can't include programmes that 1% of people have watched. That's just the way it is.

I guess my point is...why not just call it “Best English sitcoms”.

Is it language or nationality that concerns you?
Should the title be "Greatest British-made English-language sitcom"?
Or "Greatest sitcoms mainly made by English people but with help from those from other parts of the UK (and maybe international too)"?

Gavin and Stacey is in the list and father ted.
The only other non English one that could be there imo is still game.

Re: Best ever British sitcom award goes to...........................
This thread has got me remembering some brilliant British comedy series - none of them are sketch shows or adaptations of comic books (Porterhouse Blue!) , but I'm not sure they all fit with the label 'sitcom'
Black Books
Auf Wiedersehen, Pet
Brass
Green Wing
The League Of Gentlemen
Coupling
Extras
Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps
Steptoe And Son
Rising Damp
A Touch Of Cloth
Men Bahaving Badly
No Offence
The New Statesman
I would put all of them above The Vicar of Dibley and Only Fools And Horses. But then I'd put Chelmsford 123 with its wobbly sets, lack of a script and half-arsed acting above those two.

If Minder and Only Fools and Horses had been shown at the same time thirty years ago it would always be Arthur and Terry for me, so I'd add Minder to your list.

If you haven’t seen Fleabag, you should definitely watch it. Genius.

As a bloke in his sixties, I always thought Fleabag was hardly written with me in mind so decided to give it a miss until one night about six months ago when I couldn't find anything I fancied watching on Netflix and Amazon. My intention was to see if I could get through episode one, but I ended up watching the whole of the first series in one go.
For the second series, I waited until it had finished and then watched all of it on Tuesday. Unlike the first time I watched it, my expectations were very high and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest - in fact, I thought it was a step up from the first series which is some achievement in itself.
