I seen 'Penniman' on the song credits of Richard's records, but always thought it was a pseudonym for Bumps Blackwell.

That's a question that has occurred to me once or twice. Just looked on Wikipedia and he recorded the first ever cover version of a Beatles song (Misery) - it flopped. He toured with the Beatles and offered to help Lennon and McCartney write a song before he "quickly became frustrated and criticised their ability to compose music".
He co wrote the Small Faces hit Sha-La-La-La-Lee and a flop single for Avengers actress Linda Thorson was all his own work as well, but, maybe, his greatest triumph came in 1978 when he wrote and produced this classic

which, apparently, came second in the 1978 Eurovision Song Contest.
Some would argue that he surpassed this when he "oversaw the production for Hylda Baker and Arthur Mullard's comedy version of You're the One That I Want which reached 22 in the UK charts in September 1978".
Two years later "Lynch formed a songwriting partnership with former tennis player Buster Mottram, a long-time white nationalist political activist".

Kenny Lynch was the first person ever to cover a Beatles record. He covered "Misery".
