FA Cup weekend fixtures
First game I’ve heard as a bubble other than ours for years.
Why as fans do we put up with this?
I expect this to be a good one, 2-2.
I expect some upsets in other games too maybe Stoke, QPR and Wimbledon

Re: FA Cup weekend / Sunderland Newcastle
Mackems/Mags derby is the one I’m looking forward to the most.......bar ours of course.

Re: FA Cup weekend / Sunderland Newcastle
Look at the shorts! I'm actually pleased they are wearing their traditional strips.
Terrific full blooded game so far - and no VAR.....tackles flying in...not sure who I want to win this one.

Re: FA Cup weekend / Sunderland Newcastle
That was a penalty wasn't it? McCoist just seems happy players are kicking each other.
Edit: Not so much of an issue now.

Re: FA Cup weekend / Sunderland Newcastle
0 - 1. Newcastle lead through a Sunderland o.g.
But more importantly Maidstone are leading Stevenage. C'mon the non league clubs.

Re: FA Cup weekend / Sunderland Newcastle
Mark Harris has scored for Oxford, but it’s not doing them much good.
Sunderland rather messing up their big game so far, they seem a bit overawed by the occasion.

Re: FA Cup weekend / Sunderland Newcastle
One thing we’ve learnt watching this is that George Formby’s barber is still alive, Chris Waddle has been there this morning!!

Re: FA Cup weekend / Sunderland Newcastle
FFS Sunderland. Playing out from the back = disaster.
0-2 only 30 seconds into the 2nd half.

Re: FA Cup weekend / Sunderland Newcastle
How long will this playing out from the back nonsense continue, unless you're Man City ?
-
Re: FA Cup weekend / Sunderland Newcastle
17 year old Miley on for Newcastle having also played in the Champions League
Yet in recent years our managers been scared of playing 20 and 21 year olds "too soon"

No idea why he's tried cutting inside against a top Premier League attacker
Newcastle's side cost upwards of £150m and are a good pressing side even by Premier League standards, you need to be much cleverer than Sunderland have been today

It’s been debated on here no end of times, some think that we have to persevere regardless of its drawbacks because it’s the modern way and anything else in dinosaur like. It needs to be perfected to the nth degree on the training pitches before teams such as us introduce it constantly on a match day. Accidents waiting to happen, even in our division, attempting it against top Premier League sides is utter suicide.

Been saying this for ages.....as one who is old enough to remember when we DID play them 16-17-18 years of age.

It's not the playing out from the back that's the problem, as long as defenders know their limitations or potential problems. Newcastle's front men are far quicker in thought and foot than anything in the Championship, so they should know they won't have any time to dwell on the ball. When they can get through the advanced forward line they have a bit more room in midfield.
Individual error, not a problem with playing out from the back.

It’s a massive problem when you haven’t got the personnel to carry out the tactic.

Exactly. The equivalent of continually playing high balls up to a 5ft 7in centre forward up against a dominant 6ft 4in centre half.

It's not even that long ago that we played youngsters. Aaron Ramsey is the obvious one who played at 16/17, but Cameron Jerome was our starting striker at what, 18? Joe Ledley broke through at 17, so did Chris Gunter and Adam Matthews, James Collins and Darcy Blake broke in as 18 year olds. Even under Mackay younger players like Ben Nugent and Declan John got opportunities. It seems in recent years we've employed "pragmatic" managers with little to no interest in developing players which ends with us loading up on crap journeymen we can't shift
What's baffling is that it's not like our age group sides are uniquely crap, they're actually generally decent and we've seen players poached by big clubs. Swansea, a side who we've generally gotten the better of in age group levels over recent years, played a 17 year old at Boro recently and he did well. I find it hard to believe that he's far better than every 17 year old at Cardiff
