Malcolm Richards Of Pill ( old Cwnty fan ) Wow
Just listened to a call into radio 5 chap called for Malcolm Richards from Pill Newport ( which is an old residential docks type area ,bit like our Butetown)
Very emotional call, he was in tears , as he talked about the old days of Somerton Park , playing in the last eight of the european cup winners cup, then the dreadful deep fall into the lower depths of football's leagues , lose of ground , they were almost forgotten to the world of football , even through that he and others kept faith, and now they are facing Spurs ,and he can't believe their journey .
Even the radio commentators were in tears so was I .
Hope they win or get a result for Malcolm and his incredible fans who stayed with them thorough thick and thin .
I know why I love this sport so much now , its guys like Malcolm that keep the heart and faith.

Very true, fans having to travel to Moreton-in-the-Marsh for home games in the 9th tier of the pyramid. Newport County have, in my opinion, emerged from the trauma a stronger club than the one that was leaving Division 4 in '88.
They have a good chance of the play-offs this season, and the cup money will really help. They used the cup tie to swell their crowd for their game against Crawley last Friday.

This contrasts totally to the piece on Talk Sport this morning where around 20 Yeovil residents were asked if they were excited about the match with Man U this evening and most of them didn't know the match was even on.

That reminds me of Torquay in the 80's. Unbelievably one guy didn't know Torquay had a football club!

I think there's a lot of people in South Wales who don't know Cardiff or Newport have football clubs either. They just follow Man U or Liverpool from their armchairs.

I've heard people say "I didn't even know Wales had a football team." in the past.

I spoke to a Blackpool fan on my flight over for Sheff Wed home. Bumped into him at Cardiff Airport on the way back. He said he detested the visit to County. Stoned by Newport fans and escorted away from the ground.
The problem with clubs who have been out of the picture, their fans are stuck in the past. A bunch of morons. Obviously a minority but still. They belong in the bottom tier.
