Swansea in the running for City of Culture
A statue of Dylan Thomas. Surely they will walk it.
-
Never thought l would ever say this but
Come on Swansea, would be great to see you win City of culture
-
Re: Never thought l would ever say this but
Current holder of UK City of Culture is Hull. The previous was Londonderry. I don't know what the threshold is for carrying the crown but having visited both then it must be extremely low as both Hull and Londonderry are crap holes.

Re: Swansea in the running for City of Culture
Entry into the competition is basically an admission that your 'City' is a little bit shit
-
Re: Swansea in the running for City of Culture
What time are they announcing it?

Less than chuffed to have had a message deleted in this thread. Time to discover pastures new.

Re: Swansea in the running for City of Culture
Isn't "City of Culture" basically "Shithole of the Year"?
-
Re: Never thought l would ever say this but
We'll probably never hear the end of it, but yeah, good luck to Swansea.

Re: Never thought l would ever say this but
It could certainly have done with a lift.
Place is in a right state and falling apart.
-
Re: Never thought l would ever say this but
Coventry it is then
-
Re: Never thought l would ever say this but
Really? The last time Swansea had a make over it was courtesy of the Luftwaffe.

There’s a lot going on in Swansea at the moment - redevelopment of the High Street, SA1, etcetc.
It was falling apart but progress is being made.
Pity about the population. That will never develop.

Good to know about the redevelopment.
All joking and jibes about the place aside, I was genuinely shocked when I had reason to visit a few months ago.
So run down and so widespread the decay.

It is becoming a bit 1984 around here. Such a shame.

When I was working over at Yate, and being away early in the morning, I was listening to Mal Pope each day, I thought
he was a very good Radio Geezer, enjoyed his show.

Re: Swansea in the running for City of Culture
Yate. The place with the most people with the least culture. Conceived in Spirals nightclub toilets Unlike the toffs up the road in chipping sodbury who were conceived in The Squire Pub toilets after the mop annual high street fair.
-
Re: Swansea in the running for City of Culture
Top nosh in the Squire  the sods certainly thought they were up market to the Yaties

It should come as no surprise that I fell asleep in that little courtyard where you can smoke fags and was asked to leave. Had paid at the bar for my steak pie n chips so didn't get a free meal. Gutted.

Re: Swansea in the running for City of Culture
Swansea should take is a compliment that the judges actually deemed that Coventry was more needy than they are.
The whole competition seems desperate to me.
Swansea may we'll have lost as they were planning a Bonnie Tyler concert on the beach if they won.
I kid ye not

Re: Swansea in the running for City of Culture
Nearly got 8 balled by a wurzell in pool at Spirals. Told him unless he pulled his jeans up and behaved I weren't playing.

I saw the promo clip where Bonnie Tyler was trying to convince the judges that Swansea was full of creativity... A woman that sang Total Eclipse Of The Heart on a cruise ship during a solar eclipse this year!!
She wouldn’t know creativity if it punched her in the face (which, obviously I hope it does).
What a shambles Swansea is! :hehe:

Re: Swansea in the running for City of Culture
John Hartson on the radio earlier saying that Richard Burton. Anthony Hopkins n Michael Sheen were from there. Though they were Port Tablet. If he's pulling that one then he has to own up to Keith Allen as well. Same Rules.

I was in Swansea recently for a debating competition and I couldn't believe how run down it was

Richard Burton and Anthony Hopkins are from Port Talbot, Sheen was born in Newport but moved there.
If they're claiming that lot do we get to claim the Manics, Aneurin Bevan, Tom Jones and Tommy Cooper? Where do we draw the line?
