A salutary story for the lurkers on here
Looking at this board, the ratio of posts to views is bonkers. (Sometimes I even wonder if some clever dick is playing with his/her reload button.) There are seemingly loadsa viewers who dip in without making a contribution - which of course is their right.
When Pompey won the Cup Final and had several years in the Premier League, they had a thriving forum: "Fratton Faithful". It was chock-full of posts and banter and debate and humour.
Now Fratton Faithful is a "ghost forum" with hardly any posts whatsoever - despite their club leading League One. (Check out http://boards.footymad.net/forumdisplay.php?f=2590 )
There are several reasons for this including the fact that several of their 'big hitters' deserted the forum for another board.
The suggested lesson is: if you enjoy reading CCMB, consider making a contribution - give, as well as take.

Re: A salutary story for the lurkers on here
A lot of big hitters have left this board as well. Before the rebrand, this board was thriving. Plenty of knowledge, laughter and banter. A lot of it went too far, but the boss and the mods would keep on top of it.
There does appear to be a bit of a clique on here now, and if someone has an opinion that is outside the realms of the masses, the verbal kicking boots are quickly adorned.
Nowhere near as good on here these days. IMO, the Jones era coincided with the halcyon days on here.

It was busier and there was more banter on here even before those days.
The old messageboard style helped that along as well.

Re: A salutary story for the lurkers on here
It doesn't help when the forum itself prevents you from participating due to the ads all over the place. Some ads fine but not when they prevent the purpose of the forum itself

Are 'message boards' dying out??
CCMB is a near ghost town compared to how it was 5/10/15+ years ago.
Youngsters today have reddit/twitter/insta.

I think there was a feeling that we were getting close to the Prem and on the verge of winning something during Jones' time here and there was 50+ years of heartache we were all keen to see the end of. A lot of intensity also went out of the board once it became an advertising hell as well.

There's obviously a good reason for that.......and nothing to do with the march of time :frown:

Markylicksthais, Dai Hard, Heathblue, SBF1, Nigel Blues... all usernames from yesteryear. Dai Hard was an interesting character who had a voracious appetite for viagra pills. When hospitalised he demanded they be provided to ensure he wouldn't roll out of bed again.

:hehe: Unless I'm confused I spoke to him recently, pretty sure Heathblue is about too.
