British & Irish Lions
The welsh are getting destroyed on BBC comment sections and rugby forums.
Reportedly 2 Scots and Jamie Roberts is a bit harsh...
I'd prefer less welsh were picked and it didn't feel like Welsh rugby proving themselves out there rather than a joint effort.
The squad is announced at noon.

Re: British & Irish Lions
It should be England dominated, can see 4 scotch going, 7 Welsh?

Well, If Gatland & Co. are going to take 4 bottles of scotch, may I recommend Arran Malt, Cask Islay, Glen Moray and Inchmoan. All of these are of course, single malt whiskeys. :ayatollah:

Surprised we're not picking anyone from the Swansea area.

You may recommend all you want but unless Jimmy the Jock confirms then we won't rush out to purchase them. Being Scottish he is naturally an expert. Mind, from what I understand, he's yet to taste any whisky he doesn't approve of. Same goes for all ales, wines and spirits he's sampled to excess.

12 Welshmen I make it, but a lot of the "in the know" stories about who was going and who wasn't were wrong.

Re: British & Irish Lions
I got no interest in rugby but I am interested in facts and figures.
So, can someone explain to me why they need to take a squad of 41 players?
Surely a squad of 30 players would be enough, 2 for each position, and a few on stand by incase of injuries.
-
Re: British & Irish Lions
Scotland are on the face of it unlucky but that game against England was a complete non-performance. It was their biggest game in years and they didn't show up. Coaches maybe thought they couldn't risk that.

BBC comments is full of flag waving little Englanders, Biggar and Moriarty might be fortunate but past them I can't see how the others could be left out. You have to start by picking the most talented players and then try and build around that.

I heard on the radio on average 10 players get their tour ended by injury.
And it works out to around a game every 3 months in the month of the tour. It is absolutely brutal.
The size of this squad is bigger than usual apparently so 41 may be a bit OTT.

It has given me a headache just reading the comments on that one article. The one with 600+ comments and rapidly rising.

I don't think the Scots should be included , as most of their supportors want independence ,hate allegiances and they are following that fish lady, who is slowly becoming a dictator .

Re: British & Irish Lions
The Western Mail / Echo boys are having a wankfest at the prospect of the tour.
Personally I don't care how the Eggers do. Roll on the Football season in August.
C'mon City :ayatollah:

Re: British & Irish Lions
I love all the English hate for Gatland in those BBC comments. I have posted on there myself just pointing out that when Lord Bald made his Lions selection in 2005 he selected 20 Englishmen with three more to join the squad if fit. He selected just 9 Welshmen.Wales had just won the Grand Slam.

It's two teams effectively, a midweek team and a weekend team. Fixtures come thick and fast on a Lions tour.
-
Re: British & Irish Lions
It's a brave call by Gatland - see picking Jamie Roberts or only two Scottish players - but he's got it right in primarily and English side and I'm sure there is an argument that you are not picking your best 40 odd players but picking a squad that can win a series. Don't forget that 3+ of those picked now are next to guaranteed to be injured for the final test and while you can bring in individual quality from back-up you may not be able to bring in the right person for the squad so easily.
It's a brave call but not as biased and predictably so as Clive Woodward.
-
Re: British & Irish Lions
Scotland do ok in one 6nations in about 20 years, and all of a sudden they are outraged because they only got 3 players selected. Gatland was always gonna pick a lot of Welsh players, because he knows them. Just like Graham Henry, and Lord bald did in previous lion's tours
-
Re: British & Irish Lions
There are some strange choices but they probably reflect the style that Gatland is going to deploy.
Yes, there are too many Welsh players in there and the likes of the Gray brothers,Launchbury and Haskell are unlucky too miss out.
It matters not a jot though as this is going to be a whitewash and they could pick anyone and the result would not change.
The only plus point is that Gatland can shoulder the blame and his dated style of play can be consigned to the tip.

Re: British & Irish Lions
Garland said he and his team never consided people's nationality , I believe every word he says , just as I do listening to Arry
