If you like gore, then the Japanese film Grotesque is the one for you

Probably not suitable for work or people of a weak disposition.

I've met Laurence Harvey a few times - he's the brother of a good friend of mine from uni days and he's a really nice guy - I was his little green friend (from when he was on Parallel 9 kids show on saturday mornings early 90s as the little green man - if anyone remembers!)
He does a lot of shock horror films these days

The Wicker Man (original) purely because of Britt Ekland.
That is all.

Martyrs is a chair-squirmer. Started watching it one night in bed to send me off . It didn’t send me off. Gory but more profound than your usual torture porn fodder.
......feckin ‘ell. Just read the synopsis for Gini Piggu 2 : FFB. . Very interesting!

I'm not into gore porn , prefer a thinking man's film
Hard candy is a tense film

Ellen Page is excellent in that

Ones I've enjoyed recently "a girl walks home alone at night" and "Baskin"
The bad batch is by the same girl who did a girl walks home alone at night - started watching but not finished it yet. Seemed ok I thought.
Others I've seen (fairly) recently, which you may or may not have seen:
It comes at night
Suspiria (new one) - not finished this yet though
Mother!
The girl with all the gifts
The house that Jack built (uncensored on curzon home cinema but not your usual torrents yet)
The invitation
Snowtown
Raw
I'm not sure any if these really live up to the extremity stuff, other than maybe the nastiness of snowtown but I thought they were good.
There are a load more, a la the witch, it follows, etc which I assume you've seen.
Some of the Thai horror is also supposed to be good - shutter being the most popular it seems.
What Turkish/Iranian ones do you recommend? I saw under the shadow and loved it.
The new Jordan peel one looks good I think - us.

I think I’ve done the ones in the list but I don’t remember Snowtown or The invitation. Snowtown is a vampire one in Alaska or something right? I liked Raw and it comes at night especially. Mother! is just off the wall. I read he wrote thst film in one or two nights without having slept. It shows.
Turkish....”Baskin” is worth checking out. The Iranian ones were the ones you’ve mentioned! Two! Maybe that should be my next area of focus. Middle east horror.
If you enjoyed Raw you should go through this wiki page -
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_French_Extremity
And just tick them off. Another one I saw recently was
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt4266076/
Good. Worth a watch.
Off the top of my head (which is generally a good indication of how good a film is...or maybe how bad your memory is) -
Kill list
Calvaire
Whatever keeps you alive
Mandy
Revenge
The Witch

Inside

Snowtown is about a series of murders in Australia. It's pretty grim (I think the vampire one in Alaska is called 30 days of night?). The invitation is sort of more of a thriller but I think is listed as horror - not sure - it's decent. Not something that's going to blow you away, but an enjoyable watch I thought.
Will definitely check out Baskin and the others you recommend (though, likewise i've seen a fair few of the french ones and others in the list). Those french extremity ones I find a mixed bag to be fair - some are outstanding like martyrs, but some seem to just be bit boring.
The witch is brilliant I thought though. I seem to remember you recommended calvaire before too - i really should get around to watching it!

Ye. I was thinking the same re. Calvaire ! And I think this thread has been done at least twice before. I am so incredibly boring and predictable.
I’ve got a thing for the french ones. Bit of a fan so generally they can do no wrong in my eyes.
I’ll post my results on middle eastern horror soon....and won’t mention Calvaire ever again......check out the dancing scene in the pub though at the very least...
