Talking about the “old” days last night
So who else used to fix a lollipop stick, or piece of cardboard to the back wheel of their bike, so it sounded like a mini engine as it hit the spokes?

A playing card would do the same thing

Basically a strong tree stick or sturdy bamboo which was chiselled to a point at one end.
At the other, a set of flights made from said playing cards or something sturdier.
A piece of string then wrapped around the middle of the "arrow" and thrown in a javelin type way.
You could launch it hundreds of yards if built and thrown correctly.

Totally going in a different direction, but who remembers the monkey outside the fishing net shop at Roath Park ?
(Not totally off, as we used to ride our bikes up there, with false motors on :hehe:)

Catapults, gobstoppers and sweet chewing tobacco. Licorice pipes, planes made from polystyrene ceiling tiles, verrucas and impetigo. Those were the days.

Pea shooters, making your own kite and flying it, making tree dens in the woods, making bows & arrows, playing splits with a penknife on the lawn, bird nesting. :hehe:

Re: Talking about the “old” days last night
What were those bits of stick which were sold in sweet shops. They were vaguely licorice in taste and would fray after they'd been chewed for ages?

I remember 'splits' but what about 'chicken'. You started with the legs spread open and brought them in to where the knife stuck in. What the f*ck were we doing with knives anyway at about 8 years of age??? Wouldn't have dreamt of stabbing anyone though.

Does anybody else remember trying to get hold of a copy of Spick & Span ( probably my first sight of nipples) or Health & Efficiency (topless girls doing exercises or throwing a beach ball!).

Kid up my street his old man had a huge porn mag collection. When they moved me and my mate hit the jackpot when we went through the stuff they had chucked out during the move :hehe:
