Aston Villa threatened with winding up order
https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...-a8384801.html
It has been known for some time that Aston Villa could face financial difficulties if they failed to gain promotion. The Villa hierarchy claim the threat by HMRC to issue a winding up order is due to a failure to make a scheduled tax payment but was the money there?
Re: Aston Villa threatened with winding up order
Not sure how I feel about this.
I don’t want to see any club go through the same crap we did but really dislike Villa and have they brought it upon themselves.

When you think of their income stream from Parachute payments, multi million pound shirt sponsorship deal, gate receipts all at premier level it's astonishing really.
Re: Aston Villa threatened with winding up order
Don't care what club it is, I hate it when this happens as it will always be the fans who lose out while owners walk away relatively Scott free. Also why I think fans deserve more respect from clubs in the good times as they are likely to be the ones picking up the mess if it goes wrong.
Villa seemed to speak about a long term plan then spunked a load of money trying to rush back to the premier league.

Could they do a Coventry?
Re: Aston Villa threatened with winding up order
Remember when they let Joe Bennett come here rather than Sheffield Wednesday because they didn't want to let him go to a promotion rival - we got a seven figure sum full back for nothing that day. I wonder how many other such decisions they've come to regret in the last few days?
Re: Aston Villa threatened with winding up order
Im sure Pistol Pete Ridsdale could go in and do a negotiating job for them
Jack Grealish? £5m not a penny more or less just like Aaron Ramsey.
5 year season tickets at a discounted rate.
Catering rights to Compass for 10 years
What VAT problems?
I'm sure his CV is on its way to Dr Nick now
(Poor buggers - sure they'll get through it though)
Re: Aston Villa threatened with winding up order
Palace have also missed the deadline for filing their end of year accounts as well. Not sure how that one will pan out but David Conn has written about it so could be a kiss of death.
Cautionary tales for sure

Palace have missed by a few months, and if they don't appear within 2 more they get wound up and the assets handed over to the government.
I wonder what's lurking in the accounts

Given we need a couple of crisis clubs to help us stay up then that could be more interesting than Villas problems.
Often though the accounts go in late for reasons which are far less exciting than a ‘crisis’

People have already stated Palace have had decent finances for the last few years so aren't concerned.

I agree
Re: Aston Villa threatened with winding up order
Those wanting us to splash the cash should look at the mess a huge club like Villa are in.
Re: Aston Villa threatened with winding up order
Let them sink with all the arogance these clubs apply to everyone else .

Having a winding up threat issued by HMRC is not an unusual play
It gets the adrenaline going and startles you into some action
Villa will pay what they owe to HMRC
Then face the FFP inquisition later

They spent a huge amount last season didn’t they?

It's reported this morning that the suspension was unrelated to the missed tax payment.

Hi Tim
My understanding is that the delay in filing the accounts is due to agreeing the technical treatment of an item in the accounts with the auditors and nothing to do with any financial difficulties
