Mike Dean @ FGR v Tranmere
Mike is a Tranmere fan apparently and the cameras fixed on him in the crowd during the match and celebrating after Tranmere got through.

Human after all but he is an attention seeking knob.
Let's hope Newport can do the business at Wembley.
Re: Mike Dean @ FGR v Tranmere
I’ve always rated Mike Dean as a ref,he’s officiated at more premier league games than any other ref, would be no good in Europe because he pulls players up for the type of fouls that fans complain about but players get away with,he will also award penalties for offences that other refs give outside the box but never give inside, reminds me a lot of Collina who was never called an attention seeking knob but was always in the limelight!.
Re: Mike Dean @ FGR v Tranmere
One of our best refs in my view. All refs have massive egos. They wouldn't otherwise do a job which requires total faith in their own judgement. I have never seen him as a particlular attention seeker though. More as someone not afraid to give decisions others might shirk. He is usually right too.
Re: Mike Dean @ FGR v Tranmere
Don't mind Dean, there are far worse referees than him in the league.
Re the OP though, conflict of interests surely.
Edit: Not ref

Don't see a problem as long as he isn't allocated Tranmere matches or any side that would be considered their rivals.

Yeah thx Bob thought I got away with it. See above :hehe:
Re: Mike Dean @ FGR v Tranmere
Very good ref.
After the coin incident he still gave us a 50/50 penalty which I'm sure 99% of others wouldn't have done.
Re: Mike Dean @ FGR v Tranmere
He’s a decent ref but comes under scrutiny because he makes the decisions a lot of other referees would bottle.
However I do remember him disallowing a goal for us in the Carling Cup Semi Final against Palace at Selhurst Park....for nothing.
There was abit of handbags prior to a corner being taken and when it did he automatically blew for a free kick to Palace when their wasn’t one.

50/50 is being extremely kind

Not a FGR fan to be honest even though I would have zero carbon footprint following them at home - walking to games and eating quorn pies.
However, regarding Mike Dean, wasn't very consistent in the Burnley v Cardiff match recently, and whenever there seems to be controversy surrounding refs decisions at other clubs, his name is not too far away.
Re: Mike Dean @ FGR v Tranmere
Nice to see him enjoying himself .
Bloody tough job,one I wouldn't do ,hence me trying to not blame officials for our failures ,as the game is 90 minutes plus long .
Re: Mike Dean @ FGR v Tranmere
He seems to have been around forever.

“At the top end, Premier League referees are salaried so they get paid a regular wage with match fees on top of that. Referees in the top-flight of England can earn as much as £70,000 per year. They are paid a basic yearly retainer of between £38,500 and £42,000 based on experience, and then are paid £1,150 per match on top of that.
Championship referees receive the same basic yearly retainer but are only paid £600 per game.“

Re: Mike Dean @ FGR v Tranmere
He does seem full of himself tbf.... which in my book is not the most endearing of human traits.
Good ref? Suppose so. But that’s besides the point.
