Good attitude. Most can work out if something is said in banter, or if it's said as a joke but turns out to be in poor taste. The same can be said about working out if it's plain bigotry.
I lived in Manchester for years and go their regularly. I have the piss ripped out of me mercilessly for being Welsh. That's how it goes with your mates.

That's the crux of the matter tho - "your mates". Same as anything, people you're around, friends with, you and they know how far to carry things without causing offence.
Somebody you had never met got in your face, ripping into you for being Welsh then that's being deliberately offensive not banter.

I've lived in England (and in several regions) for 40 years and I have never had any genuine stick from anyone. Playful exchanges, yes. Discrimination and hostility, no.
