Probably for the best.
Doesn’t look good when you threaten the disabled.
Re: Bad news for binge drinkers?
People who want it will pay for it.
Just put a few quid less in the gas and leccy and find other ways to save money.
Same with smoking..put it up and even people who struggle financially will find a way to pay for it....
Re: Bad news for binge drinkers?
According to the Institute of Economic Affairs, the revenue generated from alcohol taxes are worth over £10bn. That’s more than the direct costs of dealing with alcohol use through the NHS, police and welfare, which amount to less than £4bn each year.

They'll pass it off as being anti binge drinking but really they know it'll change nothing, they'll just get more £££
Re: Bad news for binge drinkers?
If we don't Brexshit then we could appeal to the EU against this.

Jimmy the Jock will be apoplectic when he reads this thread. He's the only person ever to be inducted into the Valley Rams Hall of Fame as recognition for being rat arsed inside nearly 60 Football League stadia.
He gave me a business card size leaflet once. On it was written 'Are you an alcoholic, or a binge drinker?' Underneath was a helpline telephone number.
So I rang it. It was a fecking off-licence!
:donkey:

Oh that's ok then. I'm sure genuinely ill patients queuing up in A&E depts on Friday/Saturday nights will be heartened to know that thanks to the belligerent drunks who are ahead of them, the taxes raised from booze more than cover the costs incurred by the NHS, police etc!

Have you seen how many people are falling ill and dying from air pollution?

Yes, but what the heck has that got to do with binge drinking?

The people with air pollution related illnesses would be blocking up entire wards, not the odd bed here or there, but suddenly drinking is a huge problem.

Back to the subject. I would say £4 billion of unnecessary cost is a huge problem. If you want to discuss the effects of air pollution, start a new thread.

Air pollution is relevant as it has a far greater impact on the NHS than alcohol related illness. What are we doing to tackle binge air polluters? Nothing, cos all the tax, traffic fines and parking revenenues, and other economic benefits are desirable!
Re: Bad news for binge drinkers?
You obviously don't want to discuss the massive impact of binge drinking on the NHS, police services, social services so we'd best leave it there I think.

My point being the government don't care about binge drinking for a reason
Re: Bad news for binge drinkers?
I'd better stock up for Christmas now...

I am discussing it. I just mentioned that the massive impact of binge drinking is nowhere near as big as the mega-huge ginormous impact of the binge air polluters. Surely we need to get our priorities in order?
Re: Bad news for binge drinkers?
I give some older guys £3.50 for frosty jack in town every now and then, usually if they rattling in the morning, usually the same guys. £11.25 is stretching it a bit though. I will have to start walking a different way.
Re: Bad news for binge drinkers?
Dam! I was thinking of taking up binge drinking too, just my luck.
