The pub phone going off and grown men visibly shrinking, frantic hand signals being made to whoever answers it, lies being told by the answerer, ‘He’s just left or haven’t seen him today love’. Pranksters phoning the pub and asking if Mike Hunt is in the bar, funny if a novice barmaid has answered the phone and she’s shouting out ‘Is Mike Hunt here’. Easy pleased I know but I did love the old Cardiff pub culture, all gone now😢

I’m trying to work out how old you are for these to be the two schools you mentioned - assuming you went to both, like I did.
I’d say your younger than me (41) otherwise Howardian would have been in the list, but then llanedeyrn only closed in 2014 so you could be as young as 21, but then you mentioned John Toshack who was way before my time so... ah **** it, you’re a time traveller.

Re: Things The Younger Generation May Never Experience
The taste of coal in the air.
The colliery hooter sounding at 5.30am every morning.
The steam train taking the coal to the washery, jumping on the last waggon to get a free ride into town.
Sitting around a coal fire in the dark because of power cuts due to strikes and three day weeks.
Never throwing anything out.
Ice on the inside of the windows in the winter.
Walking to school by yourself at the age of 5.
Looking after your younger siblings (all 3 of them) at the age of 6.
Always being outside, even when it rained.
Not going inside until called by your mam, or it was dark.
Getting a belting off your mam for not coming in when she called or it got dark.
Christmas smelling of oranges.
Happy halloween.
Penny for the guy.
Carol singing.
Happy New Year.

Re: Things The Younger Generation May Never Experience
Checking my watch in the olympia cinema in Queen Street, hoping the film would finish so I could get a pint in before stop tap in the Taff Vale pub opposite. Stangely I remember that pint was always flat.

Wayfinder shoes, complete with animal footprints on the soles and a hidden compass in the heels
Snake belts
Warm school milk left by the radiator
The sound of manual rotary lawnmowers
Frost on the INSIDE of your bedroom windows
Coal fire in the bedrooms
Street parties
