We get Spence back and Davies starts missing games - with Griffiths playing so well currently, the lack of goals which has been a bit of a problem at times this season would surely disappear if we could get all three of them on the pitch at the same time.
Reynolds is probably injured, but I suppose we must acknopwledge that there may just be another possible reason for his absence given this week's developments.

Jack Bodenham became the latest Development team player to be shown a red card this season (think it's four or five now) in a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace this afternoon.

Spence's goal to make it 3-0 is Hoilett-Camarasaesque (is that a word?). It comes at around 3.15 on the 'u-18 highlights:Watford' video. Griffiths gets lucky with a deflection for his goal but it's a great touch and turn, he was a handful again apparently.

Great goal by Spence - you can't have a ref with hair like that though, what is the world coming to :xmashehe:.

I agree completely, if Watford ask for the game to be replayed then they can count on my support.

Bullying accusations against City's Academy, youngsters finally get a chance in Under 23s and a possible record signing.

Thanks for that. Spence and Patten randomly played in the Ipswich fixture up at the Vale last season so there is a precedent but it was surprising to see five Academy lads in the squad yesterday, even allowing for the fact that they didn't have a game at the weekend. No point in speculating, there could be all kinds of changes in the next couple of weeks with loan deals, transfers, the Bellamy situation etc so we'll just have to wait and see how things turn out.
I agree with you about Bellamy, we need to know the whole story before we can make a judgement. I'm confused for now, The Mail seem to know all the nitty-gritty of stories from 2016 and 2017 but I thought this all started with an English lad making a recent complaint about Bellamy and who is now training with another club? That seems to have disappeared from the Mail's angle on it for now but I'd have thought that's the most relevant part of the story. I'm sure the club will want to say 'we took the earlier complaints on board, Harvey and Bellamy were warned about their behaviour and now all the lads get treated like royalty and are top of the league' but obviously they can't if there's substance to any current complaint. Again, we'll have to wait and see.

Sad to see Jamie Veale leave the club. I mentioned in my e-mail reply yesterday to the person who informed me of his move to Merthyr that the news didn't come as a surprise, but I thought he would be able to find a club that played at a bit of a higher level than them - maybe he did not want to move away from the area?
My understanding is that Alfie Patten, the lad involved in the original Bellamy story, went to Forest Green after leaving us, was released by them and is now studying in America and I think he may be playing for his college. There have also been some mentions of complaints regarding another player - it sounds like he's still on City's books in some of the stories the Mail has published, but in others it reads like he has now left us, so I'm not sure what's going on there.

It's a fair point about Matondo although he does strike me as one youngster that Warnock would've been interested in (as long as he was prepared to track back, of course) so there's a case for saying that he could've already been playing regular Premier League football if he'd stayed with us and has actually held back his career by leaving here. Not much of a case though.
Yes, I said the same about Veale. When people criticise the club for not sending youngsters out on loan this is the point they're missing, I think. If there was a long list of league clubs itching to take Veale on loan then why has he gone to Merthyr on being released? I see Connor Young is there too.
The Mail definitely started their allegations on Bellamy with the story of an English youngster who was with the club now but was training elsewhere. The Madden story quickly followed then, as the latest allegation seems to involve a Welsh lad, the original xenophobic angle has now been dropped. Like you, I'm not judging till I know all the facts but I'm a little bit suspicious of the Mail. Here's one of the earlier articles which mentions the current player.

I assume you've seen the stories linking Macauley Southam with a number of Championship clubs, including Villa. I didn't see that one coming.

His twitter reads as follows:
"I’d like to thank @CardiffCityFC for the past 15+ years that I’ve spent with them coming through the ranks and progressing as a player and a person. Ill have memories and friends I’ll remember forever....I’d also like the Thank my Family, @cerysproth and my friends for all the support they’ve given me through my tough times in the last couple of years. Hopefully now I can start enjoying my football again and who knows what the future will hold"
Maybe he wanted to stay close to his friends and family before making decision on next long-term step?

Sorry, I meant Alfie Madden, not Patten.

Its all got pretty vague as far as the Bellamy allegations go now - I still think we are only talking about two players (Alfie Madden and someone who has youth caps for Wales), but I may be wrong.
I thought Macauley Southam was a good player, but he'd always be third or fourth on any list I came up with of Academy players who might make it into the first team while he was here. I seem to remember him playing the odd game as a right wing back for the Under 23s, but I don't recall seeing him play right back. Fair play to him, a move to the Championship would be a real feather in his cap, but I have to say that, like with the decision to get rid of Ashley Baker, it does not show City in a good light.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
Ben Margetson, Joel Bagan, Sam Bowen and Sion Spence from the Under 18 team all starting today for the Under 23s at Colchester - the scheduled Academy game for Saturday was postponed, so it's still hard to tell for sure if there has been a change of approach at the club when it comes to Academy players moving up to the Under 23s.
Its 0-0 after ten minutes.

The party line is that he wasn't able to reclaim his place after suffering a head injury on Wales u-21 duty in September but he actually started the next game (a 6-0 home defeat against Yeovil) but never started another league game for them after that. Hopefully he'll have more of an impact at Port Vale, he's obviously got a long way to go before he forces his way in here.
I've never been overly impressed with him, TOBW will be able to give you a better assessment though. A bit of a jack (Jack) of all trades but not quite enough pace to play out wide, not quite enough goals in him, not quite enough strength, not quite enough workrate, not quite enough craft and guile. There's something to work with there but I wouldn't be sure what to do with him if he was in my squad, number 10 probably. He needs to start pushing on now.

Clive, having watched so many Under 23 team matches with me, I don't think you'll be too surprised that I'm agreeing with much of what you and Loramski say. I must admit that I was surprised Harris was the young player singled out by Neil Warnock from the youth ranks as worthy of comment when he took over at the club - our manager obviously saw something in him and I wonder if it might have been a bit of "devil"?
I'm not saying he's a dirty player, but I don't think he's one to be messed with and I've seen him give a bit back to a defender who was trying to rough him up a bit on a few occasions. Generally speaking though I reckon Loramski has captured it with his "not quite enough" comments, but, in Harris' defence, I would say that he was in competition with a couple of good strikers by Second Division standards at Newport and so he may prosper more at Port Vale.

Re: The Bluebirds Academy and DVP thread...
A 2-1 win for the Academy team today against QPR, a late winner from Cian Ashford. Virtually a reserve side out so it was a very creditable performance. It looks like the Academy boys are finally going to play some regular under-23 football, no Spence, Bowen, Patten, Bagan, Margetson, Patten, Griffiths or Parsons today, Ratcliffe stayed on the bench and there was no Reynolds or Davies again.
I only saw the first hour today so missed the late action, we were 1-0 up when I left and while we were riding our luck at times and struggling to have any meaningful spells of possession it was a decent enough showing considering the number of changes. Connor Davies was all energy up and down the right flank, if I had to pick anyone out, but the attitude was excellent throughout the team and I'm assuming their determination, as much as anything else, saw them over the line.

He's a big lad for an Under 14 Gringo, he was probably the tallest player in our team when he came on. He took his goal very well with a confidence that was impressive in one so young. Looking at the team again this morning, Taylor-Jones is the only name in the starting line up that I've not come across before (Knott is the lad we signed from Southampton along with Began in the summer isn't he?), but the only one I knew out of the subs was George Ratcliffe.
I see Ashford is a Rhondda boy as well .

It was great that the effort he, and the whole team, put in was rewarded with a win.
Interesting week coming up now at youth level, two games for the under-23s and with the first team squad presumably not involved at all it's going to be an ideal opportunity for the Academy boys to make an impression there.
Only a few days left to fix up decent loan moves for Coxe, Waite, Humphries and others, it would be good to see them get some first team action somewhere.
