I'd agree, possibly KZ also

I love Patterson but he is neither a Premier League midfielder or right back

Re: The existing players I expect to start our first match.
No, but he's got that knack of scoring goals, threat at set pieces.
Until we can replace his goals, you have to find a place in the team for him.

Re: The existing players I expect to start our first match.
Id replace Patterson with KZ from that list.

I'd agree with you up to a point. However, he has all the physical attributes necessary to be effective in the Prem and I think he can be taught what he needs to know to make the step up. Whether that'll be in time for the start of the season is another matter.

I'd expect Paterson to start. Odds are we won't find a No.10 as good in the air as he is and his work rate is phenomenal
Also, he's young and will improve

This has got the feeling of a post that could well be bumped in a few months time :hehe:

Re: The existing players I expect to start our first match.
Gary Neville on Sky Sports made the point that the promoted teams to the Premiershipfrom last season survived with around seven of their Championship squad playing - thus keeping the team spirit that gained promotion.

Gunner? I think he'll sign now we're up

This, however he does have to be more clinical with his finishing. He had a number of easy chances to score towards the end of the season and was wasteful. Chances will be at a premium in the premier league for a team like us.

I’d add NML and KZ to start but
I wouldn’t opt to play Patterson atm because we don’t know how the midfield will shape up. His 10 goal contribution from this year won’t count next year
I think Gunner will go. It will be a hard world cup if he hasn’t fully recovered from the current injury and I wouldn’t blame him if he took a high paying contract in Europe or elsewhere

I have reviewing individual player stats on whoscored.com
The seasonal stats on all our defender are concerning. Everyone of them has a pass completion rate described as weak or very weak most falling below 50%
That will not be good enough in the premiere league where good levels of ball retention is essential.

I got a funny feeling Jazz might surprise a few people next year!

I'd happily deal with the shame after he's banged in a hattrick against Man City :hehe:

The reason I have not put KZ in is that I believe we need another striker and so assume that that striker will start as surely he would not be worth signing if not considered to be better than KZ, GM.
KZ needs to continue his improvement and will get his chance. Madine will be either hero or zero.

Unless you want to win the league...
Premier League 2015-16 (and rank)
Team Average possession Passes per game (average) Passing accuracy
1. Leicester 41% (19) 336 (19) 69% (20)
2. Tottenham 57% (4) 486 (7) 80% (7)
3. Arsenal 56% (6) 536 (2) 84% (1)
4. Man City 58% (2) 538 (1) 83.5% (2)
5. Man Utd 58% (1) 529 (3) 83% (3)

That will in part be due to us pumping long high balls forward. Presumably if another player doesn’t win the ball then the pass isn’t completed?

Re: The existing players I expect to start our first match.
to survive we'll need to win about 10 and draw about 10.
I hope we get some of the top six in the first few games when they are still a bit rusty etc after the world cup and haven't got any momentum going.
there are 10 teams next year that I'd be confident we could beat.

You are missing the point. Even teams who have been relegated have defenders with pass completion rates of 80%
Alfie mawson, Rangel , shawcross , evans etc
Accurate Defensive passing And ball retention is a must.

I am not swayed either way but if they got relegated and also have high retention and accurate passing then maybe it isn't the key predictor of success that it is presumed to be.
I don't think Bamba or Morrison are complete posts who can't find a team mate, the tactic in the championship was to whack it long and let other teams make mistakes in their own half - that could well be altered going up a division where teams the quality is higher throughout the side.

Gary Neville talks A LOT of sense.

If they got relegated, how important is it? Shawcross' pass completion rate was 67.3% btw. Can't find Rangel's... But Evans and Mawson was over 80%.
My point is Leicester did not only survive relegation, they won the f**king league with the worst passing stats in the division. Their first choice back five's passing stats were as follows:
Schmeichel: 35.7% (worst of any player in the league)
Simpson: 71.6%
Huth: 71.6%
Morgan: 74.4%
Fuchs: 72.4%
Possession stats mean f**k all. We just finished second in the Championship with one of (if not the) worst passing stats.
