    Re: Renationalising The Trains

Well surely if 'working from home has beaten them' we have nothing to worry about?

I am not sure the country should be making decisions based on what worked or didn't work 50+ years ago, we don't...

    Re: Oh dear.

I didn't think the question is unclear or complicated in the slightest.

Philp is a nerd and is clearly un-coachable from a media perspective. This doesn't make him a bad person but they probably...

    Re: Renationalising The Trains

Some of the pricing is mental still and not because of being private/public. My base at work has recently moved out of walking distance and because of the way singles/returns are managed a single...

That's the only clip I have seen and I thought he looked like an idiot.

Like it or not, it is their most prominent policy coming into the election and he should be able to respond to a very simple...

    Re: Renationalising The Trains

I tend to think of transport as a tool to get people from places where they are economically inactive to places where they will produce things/spend money. Therefore I am not convinced the...

    Re: Renationalising The Trains

Thankfully arriva will soon be out of the mitts of DB and in the hands of a US private equity firm. If there is anything you can count on in life, it's that private equity firms owning vital...

    Re: Renationalising The Trains

Tbh your second paragraph is a bit off the mark. A significant amount of the operators are directly owned by foreign governments. The irony isn't lost that Pipster thinks it's somehow more...

    Re: Renationalising The Trains

All of those points apply to the current model.

At this point it is probably worth asking, do you think any functions of central/local government should remain 'nationalised' or would they all...

Re: Defence Spending To Go Up ?

Yeah I get that and it's intended to give a whiff of equity but it's an inherently stupid way of determining use of taxpayer funds.

Do we do it with anything else?

Re: Defence Spending To Go Up ?

I never really understood the race to claim x% of GDP spent on defense, seems like the pr wing of some arms firm manufactured it into existence as a standard and probably can't believe their luck...

    Re: Sala case

If you are a business and employ somebody who does something wrong, you are liable for that mistake/the consequences. Is that not a pretty well established convention?

Re: Rishi Sunak has his pledges...

I'd imagine covid had a part to play but I think in time we will look back and attribute much of the rise in mental health problems to the increasing creep of big tech and the acutely designed...

Re: Rishi Sunak has his pledges...

Is anybody even talking about looking into why? Dr Sunak said it himself, people aren't more ill than they used to be, nothing to see here. The policy is basically just play chicken with them until...

Re: Rishi Sunak has his pledges...

How is that outside of the party political system? Yes labour are cosplaying as Tories because they are cynical and know idiots buy into this 'tough love' shite. Yes it makes me less likely to vote...

Re: Rishi Sunak has his pledges...

Are the Tories really going to fight another election on migrants and scroungers? It's almost like they haven't been in power for 14 years.

It's such a shallow pitch as well, akin to legislating...

  25. Re: FT: WALES 0-0 POLAND. AET. Poland win on penalties.

It was a very Wales performance, comfortable, competent but ultimately very little end product. It felt like we pressured them into loads of mistakes at the back but never capitalised.
