    Re: European train travel

i've used the czech railways and the usual inter rail website, it was useful for wales games, you could get a cheap flight to frankfurt then train down through germany, stopping off in prague for a few days then on to Bratislava for A Wales game a few years back.

Did it in the summer from Venice through Italy down to Ancona and then through Croatia, Hungary, CZ and up to Berlin. Worked out that it was cheaper to book all the trains individually than to get an inter-rail pass - yeah, you're stuck for which train you can go on but you have to pay to reserve a seat even with a pass. Also, there were parts that were more convenient/only doable by bus (Croatian coast) and that was dirt cheap.

The sites mentioned above are great for train times. Double-check once you're there as we found an overnight train that only went 3 nights a week so scuppered our plans a bit.

www.bahn.de is useful if you are looking for timetables.
I went from Cardiff to Italy (and back) last summer and stopped off here and there.

Amsterdam, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Prague, Krakow, Bratislava, Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade, Novi Sad. Ask away, what a great time.

Did a few music festivals after that before ending the the beautiful Dubrovnik.

Done Perpignon years ago and did Toulouse on the TGV couple of years ago. Enjoyed it but it is a surprisingly big country. Nice way to see it. Got to change in Paris tho
