Thread: Have you ever been to a game and it's been called off?

Another one for the Bolton cup game. I'm sure it was rained off though - the only game in north west that was. Rumour was Allardyce had an injury crisis and over-watered the pitch.

All was well until we spotted Nathan Blake warming up on the pitch. After asking him to do the ayatollah, someone unfurled a Welsh flag with CCFC on it. We then got surrounded by angry locals until stewards stepped in.
Any one know how many tickets we sold for the original game? Must have been a few thousand city fAns attending plenty of different games around the center of the country.

Anther one was Rochdale away probably in the 80s (think it was post Durban years) The Egg game Wales v France or England was on in their club house. About 14.30 someone popped their head into say the game was off. Gutted. We ended up going to Bury v Doncaster. I also went to the rochdale re arranged game. Wish i could remember what year this was.
    Sounds like 87/88 to me.

Luton Town in 1970. Went up on a football special train so we were stuck up there for a few hours. Went to see the film Monty Walsh starring Lee Marvin to kill a few hours. Lots of other City fans had the same idea and the balcony was draped in blue and white scarves .
I was at this one too, went up on the special with my dad, didnt hang about after and got a train back(via london i think)Jimmy Scoular and the team were on the train back and i got all their autographs,i was only a young lad and this more than made up fir the cancellation.

Many years ago there was an FA cup game at Ninian Park against Brentford that was nearly aborted in the second half. The gates were opened about 30 minutes from the end of the match; the pitch was a mud bath, the rain relentless, the referee held several discussions with club officials but the match reached its conclusion. We lost.

Gillingham away in the mid 80's, I ran a coach from the Galed in Ystrad Rhondda. Game was called off, spent the whole time in a local pub, interrupted occasionally by all of us departing to chase/attack locals who fancied their chances.

The Carlisle game mentioned earlier, I didn't go but I remember that the Adar Glas coach had a vote as to either go to a local Club/Pub for 2 hours, or come straight back home. Amazingly the pop and crispers on board voted to come home, greatly annoying the half a dozen mates of my mate that went.

The archetypal rainy Tuesday night put paid to the Hartlepool game at their place. We went into their clubhouse I think it was called the Corner Flag. We watched Newcastle playing some Greek side I think, was drinking the local bitter Cameron's strong arm at £1-50 a pint. That was the mid 90's only about 30 odd drove up there. The club paid for us to travel back up there about 3 weeks later.I think we won 3-2

Shrewsbury & Port Vale as above but the worst was getting to Peterborough to find it called off due to frost in the shadow of the grandstand.

City at home to some team or other ( Pompey ? ) in the 60's abandoned after half
It was against Millwall in November 1967 and I remember the score was 0-0 when the ref called it off as the ball was getting stuck in the puddles that had been forming all over the pitch. I also recall there was some sort of incident involving Jimmy Scoular after the game was abandoned - I daresay it had something to do with whether people would get their money back because there was still more than two thirds of the game to go when the decision to pack up was made.

"He said: 'I know, but what the hell are they doing here?' I just looked at him, cleared my throat and said: 'That's just the way we do things at Cardiff. We don't forget our friends'."

I went to Huddersfield years ago (Leeds road ground) on way back to my ship in Scotland or Newcastle over a Christmas or New Years leave period. Went on train and when i got to the ground i found out it had been called off. Can't remember the year, guessing 1994. At least i didn't have to go back and had a ticket for the onward journey. Still pissed off at the time though.
Was halfway to Bolton as well in the cup when called off (icy roads around the ground I think)

Brighton away , about 94/95 ... I lived in Upper Beeding, Sussex and had a coach load of mates turn up at my local village pub at just after 11am ... The locals were bemused and a bit wary , but then all getting on great .
It had been pissing down all day and night , one of locals came in and told us the game was off.
Quick decision was made to stay in the pub . When the bus left at 6.00 pm everyone was hammered , some still say the most pissed they've been .
The landlord was very happy and I had free drinks for a week.
I went on my own to the replay , on a cold Tuesday think it was 1-1 .

Think it was Derby at Ninian park about 5/6 years ago... called off for a frozen pitch, if I remember.
Yeah that was the time when the undersoil heating had not been connected , we had all travelled from Southampton as well in a Limo for someone's 21st. Still it meant going on the beer a bit earlier.

The undersoil heating game was at the CCS v Leicester,i had a few Leicester mates down for the weekend and they couldn't believe a new stadium didn't have undersoil heating.

Another one that ended up at Maine Road for the Man City v Southampton game after Huddersfield was called off. It may be my bad memory but i'm sure there were more Cardiff fans there than Southampton fans. We were sat in front of them. Wierd situation but was fun.

Not called off, but it should have been, Crewe in the FA Cup. The coldest I've ever been at a football match. We could have broken our necks when we invaded the pitch. It was like a bloody skating rink.

We got ejected, escorted around the pitch, where Frank Burrows told us to feck off and we were put in the corner with about 300 other City fans.
That sounds like such a laugh it would almost be worth rounding up a couple of hundred of us to go to 'another teams game' but on purpose.. There can't be any laws against it..

The Derby game was at the CCS and we did have undersoil heating but for some reason it hadn't been connected. That's how I remember it anyway.
