Thread: You seriously could not make it up.

You seriously could not make it up.

It's a business case study for the ages.

Billionaire buys a business on the up and up with over 100 years of brand equity with a ready made market of 100,000+ people.

Proceeds to play with the recipe and come up with a new formula

    Alienates brand loyalists

Changes boardroom leadership team multiple times and goes public with a smear campaign that further damages the brand

Sees brand fall from almost it's highest position in history into a period of decline that hadn't been experienced for more than 20 years

Reverts to original branding but many loyalists have found an alternative and are lost, potentially never to return

Brand has become a laughing stock on the scale of Ratners and unrecognisable from what it once was

Cost cutting measures introduced to liquidate some of the assets.

Potential disappearance of the brand altogether.

All that in a period of 3 years!

In June 2012 I said I couldn't see a professional football team being in Cardiff by June 2017. I am in danger of being right.

Don't forget that Tan didn't have his PhD in football then. He does now so we'll be cool.

As a club we've been teetering on the edge of a disaster for a while before Tan arrived.

But now we are teetering both on and off the pitch!!

We need to get someone in if the current manager does not start turning performances around!
Someone to start building from scratch in the summer ,developing the club both on and off the field ,who has a clear plan on how he wants to grow the club, will develop a playing style that is both effective and suits the players at his disposal,a playing style that is adapted right through from juniors to DVP to first team.

As the current manager is making his changes in this window then I can't see him going in the short term so I guess we write off this season then start the rebuild in the summer.

Absolutely. I'll just be happy to stay up this season.

From which university did he get his PhD?

Not to worry. The owner knows what he's doing. He's a billionaire. And if he needs any guidance he can always ask his mum.

TLG - The Joan Collins of CCMB.

Toronto has got it spot on.
As did TLG when Tan took over , the spume dealt his way is breathtaking. I would guess from people who have been made to look fools by Tan but have not got the guts to admit it.
They content themselves by shooting the messenger over and over again.

If we start getting things right on the pitch then I suspect the damage to the brand you mention will be largely forgotten. Football fans have very short memories when they're winning.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure there are more than 100,000 people on the club's ticketing and marketing database.

Yeah point accepted, even if a proportion of those are only interested in the occasional trip to Wembley etc

All fair enough but a little uncharitable to leave out the first promotion to the top tier for 50 years in that summary of "decline".

Unfortunately that was the point.... and it wasn't really left out. We should/could have been set up for a sustained period of success after being promoted.

It would help if the manager showed the slightest interest in the juniors at the club Billy.
