Thread: Go on Ed get stuck into him

Re: Go on Ed get stuck into him

Are you real? Can you read? This is an extract from the article showing the deed of variation saved the Miliband's £92000:

"Had she retained a 100% share, and her home had one day been sold for £575,000, the IHT bill would have been £170,000; after the deed of variation the same event would have triggered a bill of £78,000".

For the record I don't blame Milliband, I would do exactly the same thing with my parents house to avoid paying IHT. Who wouldn't?

I wonder how many on here have avoided paying VAT by paying cash to a tradesman for work done or goods received on/in their own property!!!!!

The sad thing is that Ed could not anticipate that his own tax affairs would be scrutinised by making such a big thing about tax avoidance. Surely a future Prime Minister ought to be able to anticipate this but he has failed to foresee the consequence of his accusations.
This article indicates just how much the Tory party are in hock to their paymasters.

Neither do I. But, given that Miliband raised the matter in Parliament and has made such a big thing of Tories avoiding paying tax, he has scored a spectacular own goal. Miliband would have been consulted about his father's Will as he was a beneficiary under the Deed of Variation. This episode also shows that Miliband is unable to anticipate the consequences of his statements which is a worrying trait for a prospective Prime Minister. He should have ensured that his own tax affairs were beyond reproach before lobbing bricks at the opposition.

Ed knows full well that Governments for many years have been closing tax loopholes but as soon as one is closed another opens. His own government's record was not that great in this respect but the real problem is that the major accountancy firms employ people who are far cleverer than their counterparts in HMRC. And of course it is becoming obvious that Ed is scratching around for subjects to criticise the government but, when the economy is on the up, he has to resort to individual issues rather than major policies to score political points. Once again he has failed.
That's an excellent article by Obourne in the spectator.

After all these posts today, you watch Panorama tonight , how could Stephen Green get a Tory peerage unbelievable , how many more poor appointments will we see like this and Andy Coulson , Fiona Woolf , Butler-Sloss to name a few , how could anyone want to vote for this lot is beyond me , it has a stench that seems acceptable to some. I'm sure Labour is not squeaky clean, but its cleaner than most, and has a social and tolerant heart for ordinary people , its not just about looking after the top end earners or looking to drop their tax burden , do we remember the 50p to 45p drop in tax ,whilst implementing on the poor with a bedroom tax ,and freeing up many London properties ,farcical .

It's not my agenda. The story was HSBC bosses advising billionaire clients on aggressive tax avoidance. Both Cameron and Osbourne have been happy to put on record that they find THIS type of tax avoidance repulsive. Neither side mentioned any other form of tax avoidance as that was not the story, and as such it was the HSBC story that was debated in the commons.

Avoidance is legal, evasion is not but you are prepared to ignore that fact. There is little else to debate as it is a matter of personal opinion and I have to say if I was in a position where I could avoid paying tax legally I would do so.You have made no comment on the question of evasion I raised and therefore can only assume that in your insular world you are unaware of it or perhaps prefer to pretend it doesn't exist.Political dogma dies that to people I suppose.

No not a cash in hand man, my business pays tax. You, after numerous requests have failed to answer a fairly simple question about your thoughts on the HSBC issue so i think it best we leave it there.
